We had the good fortune of connecting with Leisa Robotham-Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew I always wanted to become a business owner from I was a young girl, I was always coming up with new ideas for businesses or inventions that I wanted to create. One of the reasons I chose to go into dentistry is because of the entrepreneurial nature of the profession- many Dentists usually go on to open or buy their own dental practice. Once I graduated dental school my mind immediately began to think about when I could have my own practice. It took a fews to decide where I would be living long term but after moving to Dallas in 2019 with my husband we decided this is home. Initially I thought I wanted to buy an existing practice from a retiring dentist but after looking at a few I felt like none of them embodied my personality or vision so I made the decision to start a practice from scratch.

What should our readers know about your business?
When I decided to start my own practice, I knew I didn’t want it to feel like your typical dental office and I wanted it to reflect me. When you come to see me you will be greeted by friendly faces and it’s not uncommon that you walk into an office filled with laughter as I have been fortunate to find a team that is respectful, professional and fun! It was not easy to find the right team members but when I did it made going to work so much more enjoyable and now we work hard and we play hard. It’s not uncommon that you will see me bopping down the hall to my favorite 90s and 00s jams playing throughout the office. I want everyone that comes in to feel at ease and I am proud that I have created a diverse environment and team that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. One thing I love about what I do is being able to work with and meet interesting people. Recently I had the opportunity to work with professional boxers Errol Spence Jr and Frank “Ghost” Martin to create customized sports mouthguards for them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My husband and I are big foodies so a lot of what we do when people come to visit is EAT. A week is not enough time to eat everywhere I would want to go. I would probably begin the week by taking them to the Sixty Vines for dinner, their Pork chop is SO good and they have a huge selection of wines and recently added some yummy cocktails to their menu, I love the chill vibe of the restaurant which makes it a great place to hang out and catch up with friends. Being that none of my friends are from Texas, I would take them to the stockyards to experience what everyone thinks is the “real” Texas. Other dinner spots we would hit up are Barcelona in Knox-Henderson, Kai in Legacy West for Friday night dinner and drinks or Musume and then go to their speak easy after dinner. For brunch Beverlys for their French toast, or Kirin Court for dim sum, or if we feel like dancing, brunch at Vidorra and then heading over to Stirr where they have a DJ on their rooftop.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are SO many people I want to shoutout, it really takes a village and I am blessed to have THE most supportive village ever. My family and friends are always there helping in anyway they can and cheering me on from near and far. Now that my practice is open though I think the people who really deserve a shoutout are my patients! They have shown me so much love, from referring their friends and family to me, sharing us on their social media and just giving us great feedback on their experience when they come in. It is one thing to create something and hope that people will support, I couldn’t have imagined the level of support I have gotten from strangers and the trust that they have put in me has been amazing.
