We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a dancer, I am most proud of my high level of versatility and performance quality. That’s not something every dancer can say, most like to stick to a couple of genres of dance to specialize in as a performer. Not that I don’t have genres I like more than others, but committing to training in all styles of dance throughout my life and maintaining a high level of skill in them has certainly increased my marketability, income, and allowed me to build a well rounded resume. I’m proud to have been able to perform professionally in nearly every style of dance, and to have come such a long way in my performance quality. I’m quite shy, so story telling through my facial expressions while dancing is a way for me to communicate and express myself without speaking. Growing up, I couldn’t allow myself to utilize my face as much as I wanted or needed to as a performer, out of fear of being judged. It took a lot of time, self talk, and finding encouraging peers/mentors to help bring the personality out of me, but now, I can safely say my performance quality is at such a level you would never guess I started out as afraid and shy as I used to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely recommend spending some time in downtown Dallas. There are lots of things to do, both indoors and outdoors, and plenty of great places to eat. Having a huge sweet tooth, I would have to stop by Crumbl and try the latest weekly menu of cookies, go up the Reunion Tower to look out at the view, and hit up the State Fair of Texas when that is in season. I’ve performed in the nightly “Illumination Sensation” at the fair for the past three years, and it is truly a spectacular show, and obviously the fair is known for having all kinds of good food to try.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my good friend and colleague, Hannah Fisher. She and I have spent a lot of time comparing notes on our journeys as artists and teachers, as well as how we can bring about positive change with our platforms and influence in the entertainment industry. She inspires me to work smarter, stick to my values, and not compromise them when it matters most, so she deserves to be recognized for the good she does in the world.
