We had the good fortune of connecting with Colleen Fischer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Colleen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My video production shop, Genius House Media, was born from a combination of demand + a passion for filmmaking and communication. I had always worked in the field of marketing and communication and as this became an increasingly digital landscape, the need for quality AND quantity in video grew. Now, in addition to TV commercials, marketers needed consistent top notch digital videos for online ads, social media and a growing number of platforms. At the time my partner, Adam, was managing a video production team that churned out tons of educational content and promotional videos. His education and background was in filmmaking and he was also noticing the evolving industry. Eventually we put our heads together to develop a company that would produce digital video both efficiently and beautifully. In 2013 we launched Genius House, where we could use our talents doing what we love, while partnering with brands, companies and people that appreciate the combination of expertise and value.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a video team, versatility is everything for our work, our imagination, and our business strategy. We don’t believe in having a blanket style or service, but through listening, we are able to meet our clients where they are and deliver above and beyond what they need. We work across various industries and understand that videos have different goals – from sales and marketing to communication and training. We do whatever it takes to create engaging content that moves viewers. What sets us apart creatively: The dynamic visual effects that our Graphics Animator delivers. Having an experienced editing pro as a part of the leadership team. A partnership between the cinematographer and producer that is aligned on vision and execution. Creative problem-solving skills and a sense of humor are constant keys to overcoming challenges.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a business, we were extremely fortunate to launch our company with Williamson-Dickies as a client that grew to be a long-term partner. For that, we owe a shout out to Marketing Executives Robert Dietrich and Matthew McCartin, who have put their trust in our team on multiple projects since then. On a personal side, the encouragement from my mentors and fellow female entrepreneurs, Michele Savoldi and Donna Carroll, has meant the world to me – they believed in us 100% since day one. Of course there have been many connections and friendships that have lifted me up along the way that I am endlessly grateful. And finally, our small but incredibly mighty team at Genius House deserves all of the credit. Adam Fischer, Shawn Tubre and Rick Anderson are the secret sauce to our success. We have survived quite a storm in 2020, managed to do more with less, and have had a lot of fun along the way.
