We had the good fortune of connecting with Larry Parnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Larry, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

Well, aside from the obvious importance of 28 years of pool building knowledge and experience, I think my answer to that question is three-fold. The success of Canyon Oak Pools is directly related to our team’s emphasis on client experience, communication, and an exceptional finished product. Because I physically oversee each project, every client has my personal phone number and can call or text me at any time with questions that may arise. This provides the homeowner with a sense of confidence and inclusion throughout the construction process. I feel a responsibility to make the pool building experience a positive one for them by setting realistic construction expectations and communicating honestly with them as the project moves from inception to actuality.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sure. We design, build, and remodel custom swimming pools throughout the Dallas metroplex with comprehensive attention to our homeowners. Canyon Oak Pools is a family business that focuses on individual client experience over quantity of builds. Unfortunately, the pool business, as a whole, doesn’t have the greatest reputation. Everyone has a friend that can tell you a horror story about their pool construction process. Surrounding myself with a team that shares my work ethic, values, and principles is critical to our business’s success and longevity. It is also equally important to know my own limitations. I am most proud of our small, tight-knit team (Mike, David, Ray, Kristen, Austin, and my wife Susan) whose strengths and weaknesses balance each other perfectly. Our company is built around the shared vision and goal of being a referral-based builder. Getting there requires a level of dedication and customer service that is nearly flawless. When asked what we want people to know about us, I think our tagline says it all. “Who You Build With Matters!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our idea of local fun includes Sunday night supper and trivia at The Stable in Farmersville. (Note: Be there by 7PM and brush up on your knowledge of Farmersville if you hope to get the final wager question correct). We are also a sponsor of the Blue Ridge Rodeo, which has the greatest mutton-bustin’ competition every July. In November, we love to attend the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders tree-lighting and holiday kickoff at The Star in Frisco. Lastly, with our daughters graduating from DFW rival universities, we always look forward to our annual Iron Skillet watch party! Pony Up… I mean, Go Frogs!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Larry Worthey of Blue Haven Pools in San Antonio taught me so many valuable lessons and provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge in the pool industry starting all the way back in 1995. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his mentorship. As situations have presented themselves over the last 28 years of my career in the pool business, I often reflect back on how Larry handled similar situations and utilize those experiences as navigational tools.
