Meet Kristy Morey | Newborn, child & boudoir photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristy Morey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
People often tell me, “ I don’t know how you do it.” And my simple answer is , “I just do it!”
This is my third successful business I’ve started and I believe I am successful because I don’t sit around waiting for everything to fall into place.
I don’t think about “I wish I could do (this)”
I don’t question “What if I fail?”
I JUST DO IT!
Is it a risk? Sure!
But I feel building your own business is a risk worth taking. I see it as a investment in my future as well as my children’s future.
It’s never going to be “the right time”. You’re never going to have the perfect amount of money saved up. You can keep waiting for all of these things to happen but then you’ll never get started or you’ll waste a lot of time you could’ve already been working on becoming successful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out not knowing ANYTHING about photography. When I decided this was something I wanted to do, I spent lots of time learning and using the internet to educate myself on everything I needed to know about lighting, posing, camera settings, and so much more!
It’s been a process of practice and trial & error. I know I have still not reached my highest potential because every single photoshoot I do, It ends up being better than the session before.
I chose to only specialize in newborns and boudoir for women.
I am a mother of 4 and I feel that plays a part in my ability to do my job well for both genres.
Newborn sessions are NOT easy but I have incredible patience with the babies which helps make them calm and comfortable with me. I’m not afraid of a crying baby and with my experience of caring for my own 4 babies, I am easily able to put them to sleep and capture beautiful images of them.
My boudoir clients never come to me feeling completely comfortable and confident in their bodies. My target audience is new moms because I can relate to them.
Having children makes an incredible impact on your body and I work very hard to help my clients see their beauty.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to take my visiting friends & family is to the Fort Worth Stockyards! You can’t come to DFW and NOT go to the Stockyards!
Joe T Garcia’s is at the top of my list of places to eat around there. It’s not crazy good food but the margaritas and atmosphere completely make up for it!
After dinner, there’s some great shops to get you all “Tex-i-fied” with some new cowboy boots, a big belt buckle or a fancy cowboy hat.
Then, you’re ready for a night on the town with lots of bar hoping options.
Billy Bob’s, Neon Moon, Pr’s, and Guitar Cadillac are some of my favorite bars!
And last but not least, you can end your night with a fun new tattoo at Tattoo Ranch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my biggest supporter! He always pushes me out of my comfort bubble to do things I don’t think I can do.
Believe it or not, my whole business was actually his idea that he suggested I do.
He boosted up my confidence, I put in the work, spent time educating myself and have now created a successful business.
