We had the good fortune of connecting with Kinda Makini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kinda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always worked in corporate industries that believed in exceptional customer service, building strong customer facing professionals, retaining repeat clientele all while making huge profits. If it could work for these industries, why couldn’t it work for me? So in 2017, I took the leap and began K. Makini Image Consulting where I work with high achieving professionals to create their own, custom style and enhance their communication skills to confidently achieve their wildest dreams.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I truly believe in human connection. I learned at an early age that eye contact and engaging body language is key. We can all look different but have similarities as well. I take the time to get to know my clients. I find out what motivates them to want to go higher in their careers and what’s important to them. This is what sets me apart from others as you’d be surprised how people respond to you when you give them your undivided attention! My educational background is in business administration, finance and bankruptcy law. My education gave me discipline but my corporate experience allowed me to fine tune my customer service skills and to appreciate different personalities/perspectives. Transitioning into the Image Consulting industry was not easy in the beginning. This industry is constantly changing but treating people right is always in fashion. I learned quickly that my education and experience are transferable in any industry. This keeps me grounded. I would like the world to know is that it’s much easier to be you instead of trying to be someone else. No one else has your finger prints. Being myself has taken me so much further than I could have possibly expected!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
North Texas has so many fabulous places to go! When friends come to visit, we’d have breakfast at First Watch, support local vendors at the Frisco Fresh Market, have lunch at Kenny’s East Coast Pizza, people watch in Victory Park and end the night with dinner at Gloria’s Latin Cuisine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are the motivating factors behind K. Makini Image Consulting. They taught me at a young age that image is important. If your hair looks good, you feel good. If you’ve worked hard to buy that super fabulous outfit, you have a sense of pride once you put it on. A clean pair of shoes will take you places that you’ve never been but always wanted to go. Thanks Mom and Dad for instilling in me the importance of looking good!
