We had the good fortune of connecting with Keri Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keri, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I knew from the moment I picked up a paint brush that I couldn’t put it down. This creative journey changed my trajectory in life, and added a new purpose that I didn’t know I needed. This purpose has provided fulfillment and empowerment deep in my soul and has awakened a passion that I can uniquely convey in my work.
This journey has also allowed me to find “my tribe”, a group of like-minded, creative individuals, who encourage and support my artistic career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love color! My style is a little bit boho grunge with a funky flare!

What excites me most about my art is when it connects and stimulates human emotion.

My creative journey, thus far, has not been super easy, but has not been extremely difficult, either. There have been a few struggles, but I’ve had a supportive community to help push me through the obstacles. I’ve learned to push myself, trust the process, never give up, and that a failed attempt is never a failure, but a learning experience.

Prior to discovering my love for painting, I had a love/hate relationship with alcohol . If I wasn’t working or sleeping, I was drinking. It was the drinking that blocked any and all creative flow, and stifled my desire for something more! These days there’s a lot less drinking and whole lot of painting!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
McKinney, Texas has such a charming downtown, historic square! All original buildings that offer more than 100 unique, independently owned shops and over 2 dozen restaurants. Antique shops, art galleries, home decor and apparel boutiques offer an eclectic shopping experience. We would tour the square and catch a show, taste a local wine and delight in the live entertainment. Downtown McKinney has so much to offer! Daytime festivals and nightlife celebrations epitomizes the spirit of this charismatic town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Cara Lockwood of “Cara’s Color Me Creative” and Dionne Woods of “The Turquoise Iris”. They’ve both been catalysts in my artistic adventure!
