We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendall Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendall, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from a small town located in the panhandle of Texas called White Deer. It’s a town with about 1,000 people in it. It’s mainly a farming and country-living type of town. I fought it so much growing up because I didn’t want to be that. Now that I moved away and am older, I realize how much that way of living has impacted me today and I miss it a lot!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up watching my older brother play music with his band and wanting desperately to be as talented, I started my first band at the age of 15. We played punk rock and had a blast. I wouldn’t say we knew what we were doing and that didn’t matter. Years later, I found my self playing rhythm guitar for my older brothers band and thought how could it get any better. All I wanted to do was be as good and honestly my goal was to be better. He would help me write my first songs and help me with my singing. At first, it was everything I wanted until I started really learning who I was as a musician. I branched out and started playing with another group of guys and they would let me sing a few songs each set. Well that become more and more and eventually I was helping lead that band. I started getting the itch for that feeling of having to put on a show and bring a crowd from just staring at you to wanting to buy you shots after the show. Fast forward through moving to DFW, the land of opportunity, if your are from a small town like myself. I wanted to break out and do something different. If you have ever been to a honky tonk or country bar there is just a different feeling. The music get’s people knocking back drinks, letting loose and dancing and forgetting about anything else going on in the world. I had friends back when I was growing up that listened to Cross Canadian Ragweed and Randy Rogers and I always really enjoyed that music. I just couldn’t get my self to play it as I wanted to be different back then. I didn’t want to embrace the country side that had influenced my whole life. I guess I just wanted to rebel against the norm. Being in DFW now I started going to country type bars and knew I needed to be one of the bands playing in this scene. 2 years in and we have done everything we ever set out to do. We have played Rodeo’s, opened up for Aaron Watson and Mike Ryan to name a few. I wouldn’t change anything about my past musical experiences as it has lead me to where I am now.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well this happens a lot. We usually start in the morning on the golf course, have a few drinks and listen to music. We are the kind of guys that will travel anywhere there is great golf so I can’t narrow a place down. Next, we find some grub depending on the city we are in. Afterwards, it’s time to take a little 30 min to an hour nap before we plan the night time festivities. There is a place in Anna, TX called the Gar Hole that is pretty special. . My band plays there a few times a year but when I get a chance I still like to show up and have some Fireball and Lone Stars. We usually close the bar down and start planning for the next day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m gonna shoutout my hometown, White Deer, Tx. It’s where I grew up, where I had my first can of Copenhagen, first Coors Light, first parties, first heartbreaks, where I met my wife, and where I gather a lot of my inspiration from.
