We had the good fortune of connecting with Kee West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kee, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
To me, the most important factor behind my success is believing in my vision. The moment I stopped moving based on how others would think or view me, I made it true to myself. That’s when I truly tapped into my purpose. I focused on what I wanted to see and stood firm in how I needed it to be. No one can see what I see. That vision was given to me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My organization is a voter outreach program. The ER (Empowered Rebels) focuses on resuscitating life back into politics. Our state has many registered voters, yet we have low voter turnout for every election, including the presidential elections. This is due to many factors like a lack of faith in corrupt elected and appointed officials, constituents not knowing when elections are happening, and transportation insecurities, amongst other things. The ER brings solutions to these voter problems. I focus on spreading knowledge about elections happening in Texas and the US, giving the history behind voting and how it established the America we live in today and solutions to the candidates we are presented with, strategizing how we can efficiently play the hand we have been dealt. The ER is ecstatic about the inaugural launch of Polling Parties, which will begin this October. The Polling Parties will be for the citizens who have voted and want to relieve some stress from this life-altering experience and connect with all citizens, creating a culture of collaboration with every voice. Everything up until this point was not easy. Getting to this upcoming event took dedication, money, resilience, networking, and, most importantly, time. People often didn’t show up to events I initially hosted; I lost money and time in the process. However, I didn’t stray from the course. I took sacrifices. Through therapy sessions and an encouraging support system, I kept going. I’ve learned to stick to my gut and what I believe in myself, doing something towards my end goal daily, even if it is only one thing. Even if I only reach one person. I’ve learned that time waits for no one. If you are not doing it now, you are only prolonging your success. And if you only do it for yourself, every action is of selfish interest. Egotistical is not the way. Altruism must be the way. I want the world to know that The ER is coming to you in this political emergency of this world. You are not alone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My type of itinerary would be eclectic. There would be various experiences throughout the week. We would start with eating at spots with a lovely outside view near a lake or mixed in with downtown life. A rooftop vibe, swimming to enjoy the Texas heat, to sitting near a lake having a picnic. We would go to comedy clubs and museums to explore the city. Travel to arcades and amusement parks. We would end at the spa getting massages and nails done, moving to movie nights at home for bondsealing connection.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people who deserve any recognition in my success story are the friends I have made at college and the community partners who seen me. They stood behind me when I was losing. Even when my family didn’t believe in what I was trying to do, they did. They showed up.
