We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what do you want people to remember about you?
I hope that the legacy I leave behind is a vibrant one. One that encourages people to pursue happiness and intentional occupation rather than doing what they think they are “supposed to do”. I hope I leave behind a legacy of adventure, and taking big risks for even bigger rewards…and most of all I hope I leave behind a legacy of love. Love for my family, love for spending quality time making memories over money, and a love for treating all people with kindness. I hope that people remember my laugh, because that means I laughed a lot…and I hope that people remember my faith…the faith that carried me through the greatest and hardest times. An all knowing that there was a loving God guiding me through every step of my life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This is certainly a tale of two stories, that have recently weaved their way together. For about 5-6 years now I have been heavily involved in the Dallas wellness industry. I teach yoga, lead meditation, and have done so in many forms through the years. Whether it be online, at events or in studio, the work has given me an extreme sense of purpose. Giving people an opportunity to disconnect from all of the outside distractions in our world, slow down, and reconnect within is an opportunity I pray I never take for granted. This is something I plan to do for the rest of my life in some capacity…something Matt and I incorporate into our daily lives, and something we hope to pass along to our son, Beau. This world has opened me to some many beautiful networks of people…which leads to the bridge. My husband Matt has been in the real estate world for a few years. During the pandemic shut down, and after a lot of prayer and encouragement from his (and now my) broker Rogers Healy, I decided to take the plunge and get my license so we could work together. Our approach is one we wanted to take very intentionally, incorporating my background in the wellness world, our Faith, and our sense of adventure. Buying a home, or investing in real estate is a very emotionally charged exchange, and one that we do not take lightly. We try and bring what we call a “yin and yang” approach. Using our strengths, and leaning/balancing on the other for theirs! Taking account of everything from the energy we bring, a creativity in the design and possibilities, to the nitty gritty of negotiations and deal making. We are currently expanding our team, adding members who have a passion for bringing their authentic selves to the table, who are kind and compassionate and ready to serve others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Cafe Madrid- We went to Spain for our honeymoon, and we are in a time machine when we eat here. The best tapas and vino w/a great atmosphere! Oddfellows- I went to college in Charleston, SC and their brunch takes me back to the East Coast! Breathe Meditation and Wellness- I would take them to a guided meditation, then have them do some rest and recovery with one of the amazing treatments they offer.. Oak Point Nature Preserve- I love a good hike with our pups, and this spot is a hidden gem. Plenty of space to explore, fish and breathe some fresh air! White Rock Lake- perfect for a bike ride, picnic, or people watching. Any way we can soak up the great outdoors, we do! Favor the Kind- My absolute favorite boutique in Dallas. The sweetest gals will help you find anything you might need…home decor, a great outfit, or gifts for the little kiddos or loved ones in your life! Munger Place Church- Our church home located right at the bottom of lowest Greenville! Covid friendly services outside, bring your own camping chair! Javier’s gourmet Mexican- For a delicious dinner (hello butter served with your chips and salsa!) and the best margaritas in town! Sneak a peak at the swanky cigar bar in the back for a nightcap! Concert at the Granada or Kessler- We are live music buffs and these two historical spots offer the most intimate atmosphere! Klyde Warren Park- Food trucks galore, and fun events every week! The Goat- hands down our favorite dive bar in Dallas. We have stumbled into some of our favorite local blues bands that play here often! The arboretum- The flowers, the cooking classes and the summer concert series are a pride and joy for Dallas locals!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many pivotal influences along my professional journey thus far, but none more credible than my husband, Matt. Whether it be the wellness industry, yoga/meditation or getting my real estate license and starting our business together, Matt has championed me through it all. He never told me the goals were too lofty, or too much, he has only helped pave the path for me. I know God gives us the partners we need, and I believe that more than ever with first hand experience. This shoutout, is dedicated to Matt Harris, best friend, business partner, baby daddy (lol) and husband extraordinaire.
