We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathryn O’Brien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathryn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted to find a way to help women feel better in their own skin with a almost permanent procedure. Becoming a semi permanent makeup artist made since because I can have women come to me with their ideas and wants and I can put that into reality for them. They are able to choose stencils, free style, colors, and shapes with all the services I offer. I am able to provide a service to women that can make them feel more comfortable in their own skin and help them take time off of getting ready in the mornings with makeup.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a semi permanent cosmetic artist and I focus on the more natural look of eyebrows vs the stencil type that is all over the internet. My clients come to me with the idea of what they are wanting but sometimes do not understand that the look they want is all over the internet. After I pre draw the outline of their brows and explain how the process works they always become more comfortable with me as a artist. My art is very natural looking and makes my clients natural beauty pop. I am most proud of my free style artwork, when clients see my portfolio they are more comfotable with me as a artist knowing I offer a more natural look.
I started my business in Keller, TX in 2015 and had a lot of interest since semi permanent makeup was just exploding. After five years I moved out to Ponder, TX and took a year off. That was the hardest year, I wanted to be back in the office working on clients. After about six months of looking around I was lucky enough to stumble across a suite located in Krum, TX. After a few obstacles I was able to open up shop and start my business again! The entire process of opening up shop was not easy. There were legal issues I had to check off to make sure I was compliant with the city and state. I had some tears along the way. But it all worked out in the end.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have always had the idea of starting my own business. At heart I am a entrepreneur and love the idea of start ups. When I started Life Long Beauty By Kathryn the semi permanent makeup industry was just launching. There were not many artists out there and I thought to myself this is a great idea and I should jump on it. But with great ideas come the nervous feelings. I expressed the idea to my husband and to my surprise he was all on board. His support and excitement helped me launch my business. If I did not have his support or motivation to launch my business it probably would have never happened. He has pushed me through the start up process, helped me jump obstacles, and motivated me to keep going. He is my biggest supporter and I would not be where I am at without his help and guidance.
