We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Graves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my business was there was not enough Chefs like me in my community that enjoyed cuisines from all over the world. I wanted to share my talents and cooking style with people who loved food just as much as I do. I came up with the idea to open up a Bakery and Bistro where people can enjoy good comfort foods “to go”. When the Coronavirus 2020 pandemic took us by storm, people were playing it safe when it came to eating at dine-in restaurants. Kakes2Go, Bakery and Bistro, LLC., was re-branded due to the pandemic that caused a lot of small businesses and black-owned businesses such as myself, to shut down completely. The world was forced to go into social-distancing and quarantine mode which crushed the restaurant businesses all together. Once the world re-opened, I had to think fast on how my customers could still enjoy my delicious meals without any person-to person contact, And that is when I came up with, “Contactless-Dining”. I implemented a system to where customers could feel safe by eating fine dining meals without direct contact with me. I would deliver a 3-Course meal, with a Fine-Dining table setting which the customer would set up themselves. Our success with the re-branding came from my knowledge and skills with proper sanitation practicing, wearing PPE’s properly, and less contact to no contact with customers, while continuing to provide superior customer service.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kakes-2-Go Bakery &Bistro is a; Limited Liability Corporation business with the vision of providing superior customer service along with the best tasting, and fresh quality of food made to go. We have a variety of delicious and healthy meals for breakfast and lunch with gourmet desserts as well. Kakes2Go menu will be moderately priced “comfort” and healthy foods influenced by Southern-Infused cuisines but based upon time honored recipes from around the world. The bakery and bistro store front will feature a coffeehouse with fresh food and desserts “to go”. We are currently looking for a store-front and have found several that accommodates our vision in the Mansfield, Texas area. The challenges that we face are limited spacing and commercial kitchens to cook in which can be damaging to the catering side of the business. Another challenge that we face is getting exposure to the new business but we have been spending our time doing a lot of promotional giveaways and networking to drum up some new clientele. Although, we have faced some challenges with getting a storefront for the business we have been blessed to have opportunities and doors open for us. Our next adventure will be a “Pop-up” starting in the Summer of 2021 in Mansfield, Texas, and I am so excited about the new menu that I will be presenting.

D’Marcus is a graduate of; The University of Texas at Arlington, “Go Mavs”, whom has a BA degree. in Visual Communications. He does an amazing job with getting the word out about the business while making me look good. The love and support he has to grow the business keeps me grounded as a Chef, and if I can think it, he can create it. I love having him as a part of the team at Kakes2Go, Bakery and Bistro, LLC..
