We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Angel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
My 9 year old self was thrilled to start taking voice lessons after I’ve been taking piano for the past few years. A year later, I picked up guitar and started writing my own music. I found a love for being a front woman within bands over the years and began creating my brand which lead to Kate Angel. I’ve been Kate Angel for almost 2 years and the Live shows made me realize the special connection I have with my fans. They’re my family and the reason I continue to do what I love as a Woman Who Rocks. There was a moment in my life where I felt like giving up on my passion, but that same day Lzzy Hale, Front Woman of Halestorm Commented on my Instagram post saying “Go get it Girl.” I got the opportunity to meet Lzzy and her band over a zoom call a few days before I saw them and Evanescence at a concert in Fort Worth Texas. Their music has influenced me and made me want to continue the trailblazer of New Generation Rock! At that moment, I knew I had to keep going and to not give up. I’m doing this for my Halos in the Air, for my hometown Austin Texas, for my Co Producers Matt Novesky, Bass player of Blue October, for Kelsey Flanagan at Orb Studios, for my bandmates and for my Idols who work so hard to achieve their goals! We’re in this together and I’m super grateful to have a great team by my side!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being in the music business is challenging and a lot more work than perceived. When writing a song, I typically start off with an Acoustic Guitar and my Vocals. Then I transfer the melody to my electric Gretsch guitar and add lyrics based off of the concept. I produced my first single H20 that is currently on all music platforms as well as 16 Drops of Tea and Punk Persona. I will be releasing my Upcoming EP Venom in 2023 that I Co-Produced with Matt Novesky, Bass Player of Blue October and Kelsey Flanagan at Orb studios. The music intentionally focuses on my internal thoughts that lurk in my head along with my friend’s perspectives and experiences they’ve had these past few years regarding the pandemic and mental Health. It makes me feel good to know that I can write music for others but also for myself. Creating relationships with people through my songs is the best feeling in the world. I am very grateful to share this with DFW and it takes a team to make this happen. Hard work does pay off in the end!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I could be best friends with any artist it’d be Yungblud. Dom’s a crazy cool musician with so much talent. I also appreciate how humble he is towards his fans and team. I would want to have a cup of tea with him and then go to downtown Austin to watch concerts. We would get baby back ribs and go shopping at Hot Topic. My other friends would be invited as well. We would have a night to party as rockstars and end the week with a chill movie night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout series to my family, my friends, my fans and Halos in the Air- For my band mates Phoenix Knight (Lead Guitarist) , Finn Rafferty (Drums), and Rob Retrevino (Bass).
I would like to thank my Co Producers Matt Novesky, Bass player of Blue October and Kelsey Flanagan at Orb Studios- for Brent Meyer, Scott Graham, Jennifer McGill, Bernard Porter, Alex and Omar Vallejo, and all my mentors that have guided me through my musical journey. I’m sending much Love and Respect for you all and for the New Generation Of Rock.
