We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon’Quil Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jon’Quil, why did you pursue a creative career?
I finally chose to pursue an artistic field because I knew I’d be forever happy creating things. As a child I’ve always had a high interests in arts, drawing/painting, clothes designing, dancing, etc.. I knew the creative fields would allow me to be more expressive and assist in growth journey as a person.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are all unique in our own way. I feel what sets me apart is my attentiveness to client style and finding complimentary styles. As an artist it’s very good to always have a vision and even better when you can bring it to life! The journey to this point has been long and hard but we move! I started off at chain salons but quickly became slightly bored of the repetitive styles. A life changing event urged me to go independent. It was hard starting off with no clients. The more i stayed consistent with postings/marketing the more I seen the growth in my clients and client retention. That’s right there was definitely enough to keep me pushing forward. I’ve have finally reached a point where my income now supports my needs and I couldn’t be more proud of the journey.
One of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to know your worth. A lesson that has positively been shown to me is to do right by people/clients and things around your business will flourish.
I want the world to know that when you come sit in my chair, you the Queen, or King, and I’m gone get you right!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fun question! Honestly I’m a homebody. We would definitely go to KISS Restaurant, Cheesecake Factory, a steakhouse and a place named Koolys for their baked potatoes. As far as events we’re going top golfing, sky diving, and skating. I also enjoy just being out so we’d find us a nice trail to walk, lane to sit at and eat ice cream. Finish the weekend off with a nice afro hookah lounge vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shoutout firstly to God, for placing in me gifts worth grooming and giving. To all of my family that’s been super supportive since day one. And lastly to all of my clients for their continued support! Special shout-out to the ones that’s been here since day one and the ones who send their referrals. I definitely appreciate y’all
