We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnny Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting a business was a long time dream, that I hoped to achieve in the long run. I wanted to hone my skill set and learn every facet regarding skincare and aesthetics, The business side of this industry is extensive, and multi level’d ranging from private spas, corporate hotels, franchises, med spas, etc. The amount of knowledge that I acquired through out these experiences was rewarding and beneficial to my growth. During this entire development of character building and expansion, I had one thought that resonated the most with me. Freedom. The freedom of expression with my craft in every form that it could take me. I had many doors close, many chapters end and the moment that I started to believe in myself, trust in my truth, the best doors have opened. Becoming an entrepreneur is the most challenging phase of my life that I knew I was ready to embark on.
What should our readers know about your business?
Del Carmen Skin has a vision to provide accessible skincare to your every day client. This vision developed into a way of life. The understanding of how your skin can dramatically change how a person feels and presents themselves into the world. We have a conditioned dogma of what beauty is, and if we can even attain such expectations of ourselves. I’m a results driven Esthetician, pragmatic in how I handle every skin type while coaching throughout the process. I value my clients loyalty from getting my first membership to seeing my first review. It is truly rewarding. Being able to change a person’s confidence and make them feel beautiful makes it all worth it. My clients are left feeling like they matter and are of value during their skincare journey with me by their side. I started a business months before a pandemic, it has been challenging and beyond humbling. I lost family members, long lasting friendships, location avenues, and I know I wasn’t going through it alone. It has definitely become a great character building lesson. The moment you shift your focus and your light towards your dreams, your whole reality changes. Individuals and circumstances shift out of focus that no longer serve you. Being an entrepreneur brings out a confidence within you that translates through every relationship in your life. This crisis has opened doors to many other like minded individuals helping one another and motivating each other to push through. I was able to partner with Tik Tok’s Creative Learning Fund Campaign regarding skincare and aesthetics with 40 educational videos. I worked with skincare brands like Boone’s Skin, figuring out what products worked on my clients while being aligned with their mission. I’m now located at the Health Collective which has opened new ideas and provided support to up and coming businesses like myself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Charles (mixed cocktails, tapas), Musume (dinner & drinks), Akai (Musume’s speakeasy) Complete Date Night, Boy’s your welcome!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my support system that I’ve had through out the years. The random gestures of good will and faith, the belief in who I was and who I was becoming. The ones closest to me that have stayed consistent with me through this journey of self awareness and development,
