We had the good fortune of connecting with John DeVivo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship. To grow something from the ground up. Leading people to a common goal which was created by passion and desire.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a chef and restauranteur at heart. I have a strong desire to serve people. I have a large passion for the connection between food and emotion. Showing people how flavor connects you to a memory or creates a new one. When you cook for someone its like giving them a gift. Have you ever got someone a gift? Sitting in front of them thinking, I can’t wait for you to open it because I want you to love it? That’s how you should feel when you cook for someone. With that being the foundation, My wife and I decided to start a farm. You see, the reason that the farm to table movement has become so popular these last 10 years or so, is because more and more people are becoming interested in where their food comes from. Particularly their meat. We wanted to show our four children how to produce their own food and most importantly where it comes from. We are running a regenerative farm. What makes this so interesting is that it’s very different from they way most people farm. Using a holistic approach and mimicking nature. Utilising the animals to reserve and regenerate the soil, by allowing roots to establish holding moisture in. So, I guess you would call us sold farmers above anything else. Keeping the carbon in the soil where it belongs using the principals of Allen Savory and Joel Salatin.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are new to the city we live, But I would defiantly start here at our farm 6 Forks Farm show what we are doing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Lindsay. She is the person who has inspired me to be the best I can be. She encouraged me to do more than what I thought I was capable of. Because of her courage and desire I have been able to reach not all, but certainly much more than what I am capable of. Things that I was not brave enough to try alone. She has been next to me every step of the way.
