Meet Joei Redd | Photographer & Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joei Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joei, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued this career because it came so natural to me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other artists is my ability to see the world through a different lens. My outlook on life, in general, causes me to create music from a different place than most. I am most proud of the name I have created for myself, my art represents something special and unique to me. I got to where I am today professionally with hard work dedication and perseverance to keep creating despite how difficult this environment can be within the music industry. Nothing that is worth striving for is easy, but it’s worth it. I’m Detroit Bred, I overcome challenges every day, so it just comes naturally to me. I’ve learned to stay true to yourself 100 percent, and don’t allow the opinions of others to cloud your artistic judgment and inspiration. I want the world to know that I am here to change lives, I am here to educate and inspire I want the world to know that we can break cycles and create new ones that give our greatest selves the longevity we need to progress as a society and change the lives that will come after us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Detroit the first place I would take them is L Georges Coney Island on 6 mile. You can’t say you visited Detroit without stopping by the Coney. If it’s summer I would take them concert at The Aretha aka (Chene Park) a tiger’s ball game and to belle isle to see the river may even hop on a friend’s boat. The casino is always a nice touch, but don’t stay too long. The most exciting thing to do is just walk downtown, Greektown, midtown and just take in the vibes, the people the food, and the drinks, and see where the night takes you.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
