We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerry Mooty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerry, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea of getting back into real estate hit about 30 days before covid hit so I had already signed up to take my real estate license.  Even though I am a licensed attorney, to share in real estate transaction commissions, you must also be a licensed real estate agent.   So, during covid, I interviewed and charted their offering (splits, marketing dollars, technology, support teams, culture, etc) every brokerage in Dallas.  Most brokerages were competitive on almost every category except technology.   Most brokerages didn’t offer any technology support and those that did, it was antiquated, or per the agents I interviewed, didn’t work as intended, making it more burdensome and time consuming than creating efficiencies.  In my analysis, I had found the category to focus on – technology – as I started looking for ownership possibilities.  In every industry, technology has accelerated the processes involved in those industries which has created a more efficient path so a salesperson or service provider can do more deals.  More deals mean more money.    I found what I was looking for with @properties (8th largest brokerage in the country) and their proprietary technology Pl@tform ™.   I jumped on the opportunity to buy a franchise and bring it to Texas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I wanted to be an architect but ended up with an Economics/Finance degree from SMU and a juris doctorate from South Texas College of Law. Once you pick a path, it is sometimes hard to pull away from that path.  I spent 17 years practicing law but getting into (or back into) real estate is where my heart took me. I couldn’t be more blessed to be growing the @properties Christie’s International Real Estate (Dallas) brokerage with people I truly care about which is building a culture I am super proud of.  Once you hit 50, you realize, Life is shorter than you think, so I am focused on what makes me happy, and hopefully, that will create relationships, success stories, and a well-respected company for the next phase of my life.  One of our marketing tag lines is “Bringing the Love” to the places we service and I like that as our introduction.

If you were traveling with friends to your favorite cities/countries, what does a day look like?
For the beach – I love Cabo. Those days look like a morning fishing trip, lunch in the marina cooking the fish we caught, a couple of margaritas in the afternoon, and dinner at Edith’s.

For the rest of my trips – I love Colorado in the summer with my favorite spot being Aspen. Those days start with a long hike, patio lunch at the White House followed by dinner at Matsuhisa with some cold sake.

Both places have to end with some live music, which they say “once a week makes you live 10 years longer.”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say the efforts and support our @properties Christie’s corporate leadership brings to the table is fantastic. They truly understand the business, and how to support their agents, which in turn, builds a great culture. We are working hard to emulate that culture to build a locally owned brokerage that makes an agent want to join.  And just as important, stay the rest of their career.   I truly believe culture builds success, and with the right culture, the future will be bright.
