We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeris Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeris, why did you pursue a creative career?
The idea was first executed when I began selling fabric earrings on the side, which then turned into me creating press on nails, which led to graphic tees, then photography. The process has not been easy because I am gifted in different areas which caused me to feel like I had to choose. My parents have always encouraged me to do what I really love which is photography. I spoke to them about it so they began investing into equipment and not long after that my mentors purchased me my first camera which led to me practicing from my iPhone to a canon 70D. In June 2021 I sent an application to Register of Deeds to finalize my business name and began to advertise more and reach out to friends and family to use them as models along with advertising, which led to more inquiries and bookings. June of 2022 makes two years that I have been in business and it has been a journey. It is very true that being consistent and having a village makes the business process easier. I had to figure out my why verses just wanting to become financially stable and being able to sow into others. I had to contact other companies, read books, network, practice weekly with my camera, and speak life over my business while keeping a positive mindset. In order to truly make a move to do what you desire it all begins in your mind. Because I knew that I could do it I created a plan and wrote down all that I want to accomplish in business, and within the past two years I can truly say that I am seeing some of what I’ve always dreamt about as a little girl.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a event photographer in Charlotte,NC and have expanded my business in other cities and states. I am most proud of how I have become consistent throughout the years even though there’s been moments where I wanted to call it quits. It has not been an easy journey because nothing worth having is going to come overnight. I overcame changes through my faith, my family, and my community of friends. I want the world to know that I have the gift of influence and each photo that I take is to encourage my clients to see their inner beauty. My brand isn’t just to capture a moment, it’s also about giving back to my community and encouraging others to go after their dreams and be the best version of themself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to a photo museum here in Charlotte, along with a mini golf place called the puttery. There’s also a few brunch restaurants I would take them to and one would be “Harry’s”, and I would take them to a few restaurants in uptown charlotte. I would also take them to Jeni’s Icecream and walk around another side of town. During the week I would make sure to take them to a sushi spot that serves half off sushi on certain days of the week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate a shoutout to my Parents, Angela and Carl Johnson. They have been my biggest supporters my entire life and always have gone above and beyond for me in reference to anything I desired to do. Along with the Lord, I couldn’t have asked for better parents because I have the best ones ever!
