We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is when people say to do what makes you happy. The saying “do what makes you happy” comes with so many caveats that there has to be a better way to actually achieve happiness, joy, or satisfaction. For example people will say do what makes you happy as long as you’re not hurting anyone or do what makes you happy as long as you’re not infringing on another person’s rights or well being, etc. I always say, don’t do what makes you happy, do what’s right, and happiness will be a byproduct. Think about how you feel after doing the right thing versus doing what you thought would make you happy. You feel really good and have a clear conscience. When you think about it, doing drugs makes people happy, or getting revenge makes people happy and neither of those are good things. I definitely would like to see the extremely common piece of conventional advice “do what makes you happy” go away.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business Quality Casual Supply Co. is an apparel company that started out as a hat company. I started the business because I noticed that there was a lack of casual style baseball hats. After starting the hat company, due to customers requesting other apparel besides hats I decided to expand to selling women’s, men’s, children’s, and toddlers clothing. I’m most excited about the potential growth of the business. I feel like it’s limitless. I got to where I am today business-wise from persistence and passion for growing the business. It’s not and hasn’t been easy, but it’s been fun. I’ve overcome challenges by not letting them defeat me or get me down for too long. A lesson that I’ve learned along the way is that delayed does not mean denied. I’d like the world to know that Quality Casual Supply Co. is an apparel company that gives. What sets us apart from our competitors is our charitable giving. We give away a certain percentage of our profits to different charities/non-profits with every sell. We are a company that gives back. We put people over profits.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is a city full of great places to hang out and eat. If you come into town on a Friday evening around 5 PM, around 6PM I’m going to take you to Parliament in Uptown to get you a couple of Old Fashioneds and then we can walk down to Standard Pour at 7PM to get their brussels sprouts followed up by their Lobster Ravioli. After you’re done eating, it should be around 8:30PM and time to get a night coffee and the best espresso martini in town is at Lounge 31 in Highland Park Village. We’d go there enjoy the vibes and sip an espresso Martini so that you can wake up a little bit. After the espresso martini wakes you up a little bit, then around 10PM we’ll head down to the Bottled Blonde in Deep Ellum to listen to some music and people watch while snacking on something small. If you’re feeling up to it around 12 we can either head to a late night spot in Deep Ellum around midnight or call it a night. The next morning we’re going to wake up and head to Yardbird Southern at 10AM for some chicken, watermelon, and waffles and a mimosa. After brunch, we’ll head to Northpark mall around noon to do a little shopping for a couple of hours followed up by a trip to the JFK museum at 2PM and then the Big Red museum down the street so that you could learn some Dallas history. After a couple of hours at the museums, we’d walk down to the AT&T Discovery district so that you could see the huge screen and then hop in the car at 5PM and walk around the Bishop Arts District for a couple of hours and get 1 drink at La Reunion, then walk over to get another drink and The Botanist, and then Uber down to Tiny Victories for one last drink before dinner. For Dinner I’ll give you the option of Bob’s Steak and Chop house if you want to go high end steak, The Honor Bar if you want to get an amazing gourmet burger or salad, or Palmer’s Hot Chicken if you want to save a little money, but still have an amazing meal. After dinner, we’d go for a late night coffee at the Virgin Hotel so that you could see a great view of the Dallas Skyline. Saturday night is over and Sunday morning is a great day to head back over to Bishop arts and get breakfast at Oddfellows, wait a few hours and then get barbecue at Pecan Lodge. By this time your flight should be leaving and you’ve had a great taste of Dallas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course I have to give a shoutout to my Mom. She’s a very large part of the reason I am the man I am today. I’d like to shoutout team sports. Growing up an athlete and being around team members most of my childhood into early adulthood taught me a lot about team building and really rounded me well as a person. I also developed great social skills from being around peers in a team setting. I’d like to shoutout my alma mater Texas Southern University. Those formidable 4 years are really where I came into my own and I really enjoyed my time there. A book that I’d like to give a shoutout to is the Bible. I read it from cover to cover back in 2015 and learned a lot about human nature and the heart of man. I realized from reading the Bible that there’s nothing new under the sun and humans have been the same since we were first put on this earth and that human nature has not changed and never will. Knowing how humans tend to react in certain situations has really made me pretty good at selling to people. The book of Proverbs in particular is full of gems that will give you insight to how we are and behave as humans and I’ve used some of the things that I’ve learned about humans and applied it to dealing with people in my business.
