We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Denby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Simply, it was a deep desire to be of service to others. Before launching my business, I had already been using my skills to help those around me for free. Until one of my friends suggested that I could share my skills with others and make some money at the same time. I was both exhilarated at the notion and terrified. Terrified to not only take a leap financially but to also allow the world to see my inner truths. It’s a ‘big gulp’ moment when you step into the light so to speak and say “I’m a seer and consort with spirits”. I felt tremendous fear of being labeled a charlatan. Agreeably, some are scam artists but there are those with true gifts. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for people to find true seers. – Thankfully, I have an amazing tribe of friends who encouraged me to take this leap and live my truth. My husband was immensely supportive, no matter the result. – Now that my business, Wicks n’ Wyrd, is open, I’m truly grateful for my decision. Though it’s slow to earn peoples trust and respect in this community, the clients I have been able to assist has made it all worthwhile.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t think it’s ever easy for anyone to live a truth that has stigma attached to it and could possibly bring turmoil into their life. Putting yourself out there for the world to see is a huge leap, regardless of outcome. Deciding to create a business in the metaphysical community was definitely an anxiety trigger. – My entire life I knew I had a gift. Growing up in a cult created the instinct to hide my gift from others. To say aloud that I could see and hear spirits would have put me in the ‘hot seat’ for sure. So it became habit to keep things internal and not share the things I was seeing and hearing with others. It wasn’t until I grew up (20) and escaped the cult with my husband, that I slowly began to grow comfortable with speaking aloud what I was experiencing. – Fast Forward to 2021. Though I am comfortable with speaking this truth aloud to my small circle of friends, it was still a huge anxiety moment to pull the trigger and open a business as a seer. When you hear the word ‘psychic’ or ‘tarot’ most people outside the metaphysical community instantly think SCAM. That was not a word I wanted to be labeled with at all. But I knew that by making myself/business available to society, that was going to be ineffable. There would be the good with the bad. – It was and still is a continuous desire to be of service to others. It’s become a mantra of sort, ‘Let any negativity wash away, so I may be of service’. I have hope and trust that with time the stigma will disappear from my community of spiritualists. Until then, all I can do is live my truth out-loud now and embrace the beautiful peace that comes from it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OOO, fun. I would definitely want to keep the week leisurely paced.
Monday – Lunch at the Oasis at Joe Pool – Spend time on the water. Soaking up vitamin D and the lovely waves.
Tuesday – A visit to, Hearth Wisdom. Time flies by within those walls. So much to explore.
Wednesday – Lunch at Marianos. (Home of the Margarita)
Thursday – A visit to, Years to Your Health. This is an hidden gem for those who seek herbs and a staff with a wealth of knowledge on each plant.
Friday – A visit to, Power of the Rainbow. Another hidden ‘gem’ (haha) for those looking to obtain some crystals and rocks. This is a family owned establishment that live and breathe ROCKS. I personally take immense pleasure in walking through the shop and picking random rocks to ask “Where was this mined”? They can tell you without hesitation where each stone was mined, when it was mined and sometimes even by who. AMAZING!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my goodness, this is an easy one. I owe so much of my endeavors to the loving encouragement eagerly given by Jessica & Lawrie of the Badass Ladies Club. Not only are they wonderful friends but their ability to inspire and uplift is uniquely bountiful. Without their unyielding support; I honestly would only be helping those in my small circle of friends for fear of rejection. Now, I’m offering to be of service to any in need because I know I have a wonderful tribe of women who have my back without hesitation.
