Meet Jennifer Bradt | Owner & Clinician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Bradt, MS, LPC-S, NCC, CCTP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Honestly, it is still surreal to think about having a “brand”. When I opened Planting Seeds in November of 2008, I was new to North Texas, knew only a handful of people and had just watched my youngest walk into our neighborhood elementary school as a Kindergartner. Those do not make the most logical circumstances to decide to open a private counseling practice. In addition to that, I felt called to open a faith-based practice, yet the colleagues with whom I consulted all encouraged me not to follow through with that business model as it had the potential to limit clientele. You can tell where I stand on taking risks! Planting Seeds was birthed from a leap of faith and the support of an amazing life partner who has been my biggest cheerleader every step of the way. Those first few years were slow growing so I did what any true southerner does: built relationships with personal connections, handshakes and yummy snacks. I went out into the community I wanted to serve and began meeting other professionals who had the potential to become referral sources. I think this set the tone for the success of Planting Seeds. To this day, I am often still the one answering the main office phone or returning calls asking about our services. When you get to hear the relief in the voice of a concerned parent or the hope in the voice of someone grieving a traumatic loss simply because they’ve been truly heard via a phone call and found a spot to begin to heal, that is a good day. We are now operating out of two offices, one in Frisco and our second location in Prosper, managed primarily by my business partner. We have a staff of 20 remarkable counselors, an office manager in Frisco who is our saving grace, an administrative whiz at our Prosper location as well as several special yoga instructors. In spite of our growth, we operate as a work family and offer that same sense of welcome to every client who walks in our door. We also strive to be a resource in the communities in which we live and work by consulting, making referrals to other professionals , offering workshops to churches, schools or other groups, and knowing our colleagues well so we can refer someone on to another practice when we truly believe that is where their best fit will be found for effective therapeutic work. We have a handful of principles which each team member is asked to honor. Some of those are: • We commit to always, first and foremost, “encourage one another and build each other up” ( 1 Thess 5:11). This applies to our clients, their families and the team members at PSCC. • We will respect one another and our clients, accepting what is shared with love and grace. • As we live into the gift of Wisdom granted to each of us, we commit to remaining loving, faithful and teachable. We will put time into continuing to nurture our gifts through both professional and spiritual educational opportunities. In summary, when I ponder why this “brand” has been successful, I believe it is because we truly see worthiness in each human we encounter and we value the personal relationships we are honored to make with others. Our goal is for those who cross our path to feel like they’ve been seen, respected and heard whether they are team members, clients, collaborating professionals or the delivery person from Staples!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We have a remarkable team at Planting Seeds. We are hardworking and playful which keeps us going, especially during a year like 2020. I am most proud of the range of services we currently offer and the fact that we continue to vision beyond where we are today. We are continually curious about ways to meet the needs of as many in our community as possible and how we might offer additional meaningful services. It has been a journey that has been full of curveballs but we have navigated them with grace and persistent hope as we believe in the value of mental health.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m probably a bit of an outlier in this area because I love to be outside, no matter how hot it is! I would start the day with a delicious cup of coffee from Maple Street in Frisco (the Maple Tap is perfection) and then head to one of our area lakes. I’d love to take them kayaking and then we might do a SUP Yoga class through DFW Surf at Lake Lewisville. After a day outdoors it would definitely be time for some Tex-Mex which would mean a trip to Chuy’s. You can’t come to Texas without having some creamy jalapeno dip and a Texas Martini. Over the course of several days we would probably spend some time walking the trail at McCord Park, enjoying a picnic at Frisco Commons or biking around White Rock Lake. It would also definitely include a workout or two at Burn Boot Camp in Frisco which I frequent multiple times each week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First shoutout is to the God I worship as He has provided me the strength to endure and the faith to take the hard steps. Second shoutout is to my unbelievably amazing team members who show up, work hard and keep life fun. I’d also like to offer a shoutout to my other colleagues in the area. I am a part of peer consultation group who is always there ready to support, encourage and guide. North Texas is blessed with some truly amazing mental health professionals and some of my favorites are Spero Counseling Services, Sanford Support Systems and KidTalk!!
