We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Edmonds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
How can I be there for my kiddo and family-while still maintaining a fulfilling career? How can I have my cake and eat it too? I’m a pretty tenacious person and I have a knack for going after what I want. The pandemic gave me an eye opening realization that life is unexpected and I needed to find my happiness and focus on what matters most to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went to culinary school right out of high school. I knew I loved being creative with dishes and working with my hands. I don’t mind being on my feet for hours a day. I realized that being a chef was not what I wanted. After 10 years of restaurant management I needed a career change and realized- why CAN’T I do hair. It was always in the back of my mind, especially hair color. I get to be creative, I get to make people happy, I get to learn about the science behind hair and coach others. It was right up my alley and I never really knew it. Once I took the leap and started cosmetology school, I was overjoyed. I couldn’t believe how happy I get doing a great color job, or nailing that cut to match an “inspiration photo”. It’s such a good feeling and now I chase that feeling. Going after a new career was not easy. It took a lot of convincing of myself, then my husband, then my family to be on board and help out where they could. It’s an everyday battle. Especially in this industry. This career comes with that creative, sensitive, fragile mind and it’s hard not to beat yourself up when you make a mistake or lose a client. Sometimes you fail. If I learn from those mistakes then I can move forward and really try to pull myself back up. I have to not dwell and keep going because most times you succeed and eventually your failures will have guided you to success. Also, I have to put in the work. Keep going and know that it’s a roller coaster- with the downs come ups. I have to be patient and kind to myself. Don’t waste your time being “stuck”. It always is easier said than done, but the hard work is worth the accomplishment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My husband is an awesome drummer so we often go to Deep Ellum for a good time! Also, visiting any museum and walking around Klyde Warren is a must when the weather is right. Getting breakfast tacos and queso at any time of day at Rusty Taco is also a necessity.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe much of my success to my husband, daughter, parents and sister/BIL, or my “Village”.
