We had the good fortune of connecting with James Huff Sr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been an athletic person since my youth so I have always had health at the forefront of my focus. When I was 14 years old my eldest brother past away from a heart attack due to Prader-Willi syndrome complications. The biggest part of the syndrome is that it affects the stomach’s signal that it is full that is sent to the brain. So my brother lived his whole life feeling like he was starving. After the trauma of that happening I dove into as much knowledge as I could find about health and fitness and promised I wouldn’t stop until I reached a point where I know I could have saved him. Now that I have reached that point I have dedicated my life’s work to helping people take back their lives through fitness and nutrition.
What should our readers know about your business?
It has been a grind that is for sure. A lot of these myths and gimmicks surrounding the Heath and fitness industry have many people scared to get a personal trainer. They don’t want to feel like they are wasting their money but they also are afraid of being pushed “too hard”. But it’s a fun challenge that I willingly accept each and everyday. I have learned to be myself through it all, yes I am certified but I have to put my spin on things to make them my own workouts and my clients enjoy that. When it’s all said and done as long as my clients have a lasting impact of health and a well rounded knowledge of fitness and nutrition they can take wherever they go, I will be able to say job well done.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely have to attend multiple Texas Rangers games at the new stadium. Also a mini shopping spree at the Parks mall followed by some Freebirds burritos in The Highlands is always a good time. We would definitely hit my gym Metroflex Fort Worth aka The Castle everyday to keep that health first initiative in tact. And the Fort Worth zoo is a must see for any and every Texas visit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe my confidence in turning my passion into a business to my “Pops” Tubbs. He passed away right after Father’s Day and he would always tell me “Don’t cheat” and “Get it done”. Dont cheat meant don’t cheat yourself or others out of your gifts that you were given by God. And get it done was the affirmation that whatever the obstacles may be you still have to get it done.
