We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackson Russo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackson, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I can’t speak for everyone in the band, but I really think the world is a better place when there are ways to escape your day to day or there is a piece of work that a complete stranger has created that you can relate to. You’re seeing the value of these things grow more and more, especially with the isolation that 2020 has created. My hope is that by writing and recording our music, which is almost always just my emotions on paper, that we can contribute to making anyone’s life a little easier. That may seem like an overly lofty goal, but if it can work for one listener then all the effort will have been worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Each year the band hits a better stride than the last and we’re most proud of how we’re all able to work with each other smoothly. We’ve all been in bands in the past where personalities clash or getting together just feels like work. Every time we’re playing as MNKR it feels good how quick we can into the same headspace where we left off previously. It wasn’t easy to get to that point because everyone who starts a band has a preconceived notion of what the outcome should be, but the three of us are lucky to have worked out those kinks mostly we ever got together to play as MNKR. All the members are supportive of new ideas and we don’t feel restricted by being in a specific genre or having the “MNKR sound”. It’s extremely important to be able to try out new things in music because you’ll lose your audience and your passion if you just repeat yourself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone in the band would thank our families over and over again if it didn’t annoy them. Our families are always first to buy our music, front row at the shows, and put up with us overthinking our writing when we’re working on new stuff.
