We had the good fortune of connecting with Isiah Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isiah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process for starting my own business is knowing that one day I will have my own kids. I want to be able to leave something for my kids and family when I’m deceased. My business will leave a legacy for my family. I’m the first person out of my whole family to go to college and start my own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
The main thing that sets me apart from other brands is my logo design I have a 1 of 1 logo my logo consists of my favorite animal the elephant with money in his trunk going into his mouth like he’s eating grass. My brand is called SLUMRICH and it stands for stay loyal unlike most. I picked the elephant as my logo because elephants represent loyalty, family, wisdom and love. These are some of the morals that where instilled in me as a kid by my parents. I got to where I’m at today by staying consistent and believing in my self. Starting my a brand and starting my own business was not easy it was a process, but just like everything in life you have to go through the motions. Some of the lessons I learned along the way is that nothing happens overnight you have to grind everyday for what you want in life. I want the world to know that I am a convicted felon who has a record. I went to prison came home and changed my life around, Graduated college with a 3.2 Gpa and started my own business while going to school.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had some friends come in to town. I would take them to deep Ellum. Deep Ellum has everything you need. The scenery, Food,Drinks , good vibes, culture, retail stores you name it. It’s like a one stop shop. Everything really depends on what type of vibe they are on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my family and friends they always been some of my biggest supporters from the beginning. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them . They keep me going when times get ruff and they give me that push that I need. I would like to also shout out the great Malcom X one of my idols reading his biography changed my life for the better.
