We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Harkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Vulnerability and authenticity. I think our culture is severely lacking in these two traits. When people are vulnerable and authentic you can feel it in your heart, and maybe you’re even drawn to it.Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create folk medicine music! With themes of nature, love and humanity it creates a space for healing and connection. I think my songwriting approach is unique. I’ve had many listeners comment about lines in my songs and how they would’ve never thought of it but it’s so simple and straightforward that it works. It has not been easy to overcome all of the self limiting beliefs but I’m really proud of myself for how far I have come and it’s so worth it. A lesson I’ve learned is when fear comes up, do it anyway. I create music for the healing of myself but also for the healing of others. To assist us all in this wild life!Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We could go hiking a few times for sure! Hiking at Bastrop State Park, followed by a swim in the Colorado River. We would have brunch at The Beer Plant and dinner at Arlos! I spend most of my free time in nature. Goodloop trail in Georgetown and Reimers Ranch are two of my favorites! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My community of chosen family. They have seen me grow so much as a person and a musician! Loving and accepting me from the beginning of my journey to now.
