We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always tell people that I stumbled upon furniture design by accident, because I did, but as the years have gone on I’ve begun to understand that what I really enjoy about this particular creative career is getting to participate in the creation of good in the world. Not only do I get to create (hopefully) beautiful objects, but I also get the privilege to provide objects that perform a function for people. Tables are where fellowship happen, chairs provide comfort after a long days work, desks provide a station where others get to participate in more creation. All of these things are good! It is a great blessing to be able to take the good things that God has created and shape and form them into objects that then carry that good and multiply it in the world that we live in. There are many things that I enjoy about a creative career, but I’d say that this is the foundation for my personal pursuit of one.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business has been a long time in the making. After receiving a BFA in Furniture Design from Savannah College of Art and Design, I then worked for various companies for almost a decade building furniture, framing houses, building out commercial spaces among many other things. All of this knowledge culminated in my realization that I personally thrive when focusing specifically on furniture. After helping my wife start her chiropractic business, I stepped back and began the process of starting my own furniture business. With a focus on heirloom-quality and unique designs I personally believe that what sets me apart from most others is the quality of work I am able to provide my customers. I by no means claim to be the absolute best in my area, but I can confidently say that I am among the best and the quality of work that I provide my customers is always at the peak of my capabilities at that time.

The journey to get where I am currently has included a lot of ups and downs, and still does! The hardest part of starting my own business has been the mental side of it. When you’re seemingly doing all you can to put your name out there and grow and don’t see the fruit of doing so, it can take a toll on you and fill you with doubts. I personally believe that if I keep taking steps forward that eventually it will pay off, but it can be challenging to keep that mindset every day. The biggest lesson I have learned thus far is to make a plan and keep stepping forward. When you move, God moves. “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

What I would hope the world would know about my brand and story is that in everything we do, we do it to glorify God and honor Him and I pray that that shows in the experiences our customers have with us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we were to have a friend visit DFW, we would have an absolute blast showing them around. Our family personally lives in Bridgeport, but we travel into the city quite frequently on outings to enjoy what it has to offer. We have 3 young children, as do most of our friends, so our favorite spots are largely based on spaces that the kiddos can run around and get some energy out. With that said, we would definitely go to Wild Acre Brewing in Fort Worth. They are by far the best place we have been to in all of DFW for the kids to roam free and the adults to kick back and chat while enjoying a beer and food. We also love Tupps Brewery in McKinney, and Truck Yard in The Colony. All three of these places have massive outdoor areas which makes bringing the kiddos a breeze.

For more outdoor activities, we love riding Mountain Bikes and hiking. Erwin Park in McKinney has one of the best skills parks in DFW and is a blast to ride with the kids. For hiking, we have some great trails right behind our property at Endeavor Bridgeport. Due to the size of Bridgeport it’s a real hidden gem and hardly has more than a couple other people on the trails.

For local restaurants we enjoy Trinity Street in Decatur, and Baja in Bridgeport. Trinity Street is both a great restaurant and coffee shop with an awesome vibe, and Baja is our favorite local family owned restaurant to go to. Heriberto and Alma are the sweetest people and know pretty much everyone in the town by name.

For the guys, we would probably hit up The Chief Cigar Lounge in Decatur to enjoy some great conversation and a cigar.

Aside from venturing out, we would most likely just hangout and enjoy fellowship at our home. We have right under 5 acres of heavily treed land, and it’s a blast to be here on a nice evening with friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Aside from God, the second most influential and supportive person in my life would have to be my wife, Taylor Edwards. Even though my passion for furniture design began years before we met, where I am now is largely due to her. I had worked for other companies for years prior to beginning my own business, and I wouldn’t have been able to do so without her love, encouragement, and support (both personally and financially.) Not only has she always encouraged me and never second guessed my ability to start my own business, she has also personally been a rock in our marriage and carried a lot of the weight of raising our (now 3) children, and help in providing financial stability through her work as a chiropractor. I owe a lot to her for my ability to pursue this dream of mine.
