We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriel Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriel, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happy is living my life the way I want to live it without any hold backs. Without anyone telling me what I should or shouldn’t be doing. The reason this makes me happy is because there really isn’t a “correct” way of living, I am simply going through life doing the things I love. I follow my heart’s desire of being free and spontaneous. The feeling of being free gives me an unexplainable rush.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Fashion Photographer. I started taking photos about 6-7 years ago. I started by taking photos of nature and architecture for about 3 years to get some practice with the camera but also some editing practice. What sets me apart from other photographers is that I’ll bend most photography rules, I also work with wide angle lenses in order to get some insane distortions in the photo to make them stand out. I have worked as a fashion photographer for about 4 years now. I got where I am at today thanks to my friends and family. Thanks to their endless support it keeps me extremely motivated. I had to make huge changes in my life in order to get where I am today and it wasn’t easy. I had to deal with people who didn’t want to shoot with me, people who lie to you and people who backstab you or simply want to use you for your talents. But, ill tell you this, the real genuine people are out there and when you find one keep them close because they will help you so much in your career. Make meaningful connections with people as well, don’t be a one-stop-shop. One big lesson that I learned from all of this is to believe people’s actions and not their words. I know I’m not like others so what I want the world to know about me is that I will continue to bend the rules and continue to stand out from the masses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is a lot of places here in San Antonio that are very fun. The city is filled with latino culture. Some of the most popular places happen to be The Tower of The Americas, The Pearl Brewery, The Alamo, and The Riverwalk. There is also a lot of bars and clubs, some even happen to be on the rooftop of specific buildings. San Antonio overall is very fun but clearly is growing and once it reaches it peak it’ll be amazing !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people who deserve a shoutout are everyone who has helped me even if we have taken our separate ways. Some of those people are Mark Inoue, Stephen Rocha, Alain Boris, August McQueen, Jonabelle Tims, Steez, Breezy, Wave, Jack Jourdain and plenty of others more. Thanks to them I would never be where I am today. All of these people deserve big amount of recognition, they work so hard and diligently that is very inspiring.
