Meet Fernanda Vega | Visual artist & Wedding photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernanda Vega and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fernanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own photography business in 2017 was both exciting and terrifying. I had already been working in photography for years, but taking the leap to build something from nothing came with a lot of risks and uncertainty. What kept me going was my passion for capturing meaningful moments and the drive to keep creating.
Running a photography business is a constant learning experience, you have to evolve, adapt, and reinvent yourself over and over again. The industry changes, trends shift, and clients’ needs vary, so staying creative and persistent is key. Even after all these years, I’m still growing, improving, and finding new ways to connect with people through my work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
t’s never been easy, but it has always been fulfilling. My approach to photography is very candid and documentary style,I love capturing real, unscripted moments that truly tell the story of a special day.
I got to where I am today by being consistent, which is one of the biggest challenges as an artist. Creativity makes you want to explore different ideas and projects, but staying focused and building something sustainable takes dedication.
Living in a highly touristic area like Baja California Sur, I knew that if I wanted to stay in my hometown while continuing to create, I had to find a way to make it work. After finishing my Visual Arts degree, I decided to dive into wedding photography. I started as an assistant, and in 2017, I launched Baja Photo a business that allows me to blend my love for storytelling with the beauty of human connection.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were showing my best friend around for a week, I’d mix the city’s vibrant art and history with its dynamic food and live music scenes. We’d wander through iconic parks, visit museums and historic sites, enjoy eclectic dining in lively neighborhoods, and even take a quick day trip to experience the nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to thank my mother the rock in my life. When you run a business, there are countless moments when you need words of affirmation and a little extra support, and she has always been there for me. My father, with all his knowledge and encouragement, has also played a huge role in my journey.
I’m also grateful for my brother Diego and my colleagues from Universidad de Guadalajara, who made me feel less alone in this creative and artistic path. Photography is an exciting, beautiful, and fulfilling career, but it’s never easy. Having a strong support system has made all the difference.
