We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Morehead, MA, LPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My partner Monique Lee and I both wanted to create a therapy practice in Texas that offered a “come as you are approach”. We wanted our clients to be able to feel safe physically and emotionally in seeking therapy for what they needed exactly as they were regardless of sexual orientation, religion or presenting problem. The Couch Therapy serves all people with different backgrounds and needs without a one size fit’s all uniformed approach. We meet our clients exactly where they are emotionally and are able to help them develop individualized goals for what they hope to nurture. We are a Psychodynamic Attachment focused practice that wants to water the root of the problem not just the flower of it. Starting our own practice allowed us to create a practice that served a need we saw in our community. We are a team of passionate, female therapists who are highly trained and down to earth. We believe there is space for everyone at The Couch. We specialize in working with individuals, couples and families navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, infertility, adoption, pregnancy and postpartum support, relationship patterns stemming from childhood, as well as everyday stressors and transitions. Each of our therapists are highly trained and specialized in their therapeutic gifts. We believe that everyone can benefit from therapy- you don’t have to be “broken” to invest in therapy.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Couch Therapy believes that being a human can be difficult sometimes. We know that life changes (both big and small), complicated family relationships, grief and loss, identity integration, and parenthood can be incredibly complicated to manage on your own. Therapy at The Couch will help clients sift through their thoughts, emotions and gut feelings. Therapy will be wonderful and it will be hard but we join with clients in the journey to change. Our goal is to provide clients with the experience of being heard, walking through their story, finding and accepting their true self, and working together to navigate the twists and turns that life brings. Our client’s can expect an eclectic approach and years of experience on the other side of the couch. We are LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcome all backgrounds to join us at The Couch. Our practice doesn’t have a one size fits all approach for any life values.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our office is in Downtown McKinney Texas! We love strolling downtown on our lunch break! Patina Green is our MUST eat sandwich shop and The Yard is a great patio to sit on for happy hour. Downtown McKinney is an amazing stroll for great eats and shopping!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner Monique Lee is my shout out. Monique is uniquely talented in her gift of attachment based therapy and saw a need in our community to support individuals, families and couples in unique ways with in home therapy, telehealth and in person in order to help make therapy accessible. Monique is highly skilled in her therapeutic work and also as a business woman who works daily to help ensure that therapy is accessible and safe for clients in our area. Monique’s areas of specialty are working with individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety, low self-worth, eating disorders, relationship challenges and childhood trauma. I also offer parent coaching, and have extensive history working with adoptive families. I have a special interest in working with highly sensitive persons (HSPs) and empaths, as well as those who are struggling with their identity.
