We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Landers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
During the 2020 quarantine I had more time on my hands. I have always wanted to start a podcast and I knew I had the time to do it. I wanted to highlight women by asking the question, “How’d She Do That?’. I knew that it would be the best time for me start the podcast when I realized how much more I was listening to some of my favorite podcasts at the time! I have loved every minute of it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Having written a book, started two companies, and launching a podcast all under the age of 30, I have to say I am really proud of how each venture gave me more and more confidence. If I hadn’t started my business, I likely wouldn’t have moved forward with writing the book, if I hadn’t written the book, I may not have had the courage to start the podcast. The momentum you feel as you go for your dreams and set new goals is unlike anything else! It wasn’t always easy but I find that as you get over each obstacle, like learning how to self-publish a book, figuring out how to record a podcast remotely, or asking for help from friends and family, you feel more and more confident in what you’re doing and how you’re moving forward in your given industry or passion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have to say my Malibu Guide on HowdSheDoThatPodcast.com has this listed out in detail!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a podcaster named Jamie Ivey that hosts ‘The Happy Hour’ who I have always felt connected to! The Happy Hour was one of the first podcast I ever listened to and fell in love with the host! She was friendly, fun, and smart! When I told my friends and family that I wanted to start a podcast they knew it was exactly what I should do and encouraged me to go for it.
