We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
New Horizons of North Texas is a 501c3, non-profit dedicated to serving at-risk children and youth through no-cost after-school programs. New Horizons of North Texas recognizes the crisis facing the education system and the family. New Horizons of North Texas seeks to provide a holistic program that supports and strengthens students and their families.

New Horizons of North Texas was established in 2015 and it has been able to make a difference in the lives of North Texas students because of the strength of the program, the dedication of our volunteers, and the generosity of our donors.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Elizabeth Chavez, I have been the Executive Director of New Horizons of North Texas for the last 14 months. It has been an honor to be the leader of this amazing organization as we have embarked on cultivating and growing the organization to meet more at-risk children in North Texas. In the past year, New Horizons of North Texas has developed its program to offer comprehensive and holistic services for its participants while cultivating our donor and support base. Moreover, we have been working on brand recognition and visibility as we have expanded our social media base.

The process is ongoing in achieving our strategic plan of growth and expanded outreach. We struggle with being unknown, but we are actively working on broadening our base.

In my own professional life, I am grateful to be able to use the skills and education that I have garnered over time. I enjoy every aspect of my job from program development to donor relationships to training staff to community relations. I have been blessed with excellent academic training and extraordinary professional and volunteer experiences, which has helped to drive my abilities as an executive director.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The metro-plex area is amazing and it is so rich with culture and fun activities. I spent 10 years in Deep Ellum and deeply love that community, however I love the White Rock Lake area and having dinner at Smokey Rose is a great experience. Yet, the Harbor in Rockwall is a mini-vacation with its water features and access to Lake Ray Hubbard. Finally, one must check out the rodeo, while the Stockyards will provide a fun day of cowboy-ing, I prefer the Mesquite Rodeo’s authentic rustic arena and competition.
