We had the good fortune of connecting with Ekaterina Luneva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ekaterina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I feel like one of the most important things in becoming successful is motivation. And for every single person this motivation will be different – make a lot of money, prove something to yourself or the world, create a better future for your family etc. For me and my business partner this motivation was the fact of being new to the country. Being where we were 2 years ago helped us realize that without having anyone to rely on, having no one to pick us up if we fall – we will just not be able to survive without becoming independent. Especially when you start your life in a new country and you have nothing at the beginning. So I believe that having a strong motivation, fear of not making it definitely pushed us to work and educate ourselves which grew into the beautiful business that we currently have!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So me and Daria originally met in Wildwood, NJ back in 2014 when we both came to USA as Work and Travel students. Back then it was all fun working down the shore, being young and reckless with no big plans for the future and our career choices. Her life eventually brought her and her boyfriend to Dallas, Texas back in 2017 and me and my husband decided to hop on board with the crazy idea of relocating, travelling the US and followed along with them to see what Texas has for us.
First year in Texas was pretty tough – we worked at the mall for minimum wage jobs, had little to none social life and after realizing that we do not want to spend our lives this way we started looking for other opportunities.
Here I would want to give a shoutout to our friend Dina who lives in Miami and at that time was already on board with launching her balloon business. Me and Daria found her business page filled with balloons and got so inspired by things she was creating! It took us 30 minutes to make a quick research in our area about other balloon businesses so after that we already knew – this is what we want to do. We jumped on a quick call, talked about the details of working with balloons and it was set to go!
It took us a month to practice our balloon art techniques, launch our first website, create social media pages and make a logo for our business and that was it – WOW Balloons was born.
Looking back to our first work back in October 2018 definitely makes us realize how much we grew and improved over time. Those 2 years have been so difficult, surviving the pandemic was definitely one of the biggest challenges for us along with learning the rules of being a boss to yourself and having all the responsibilities in the world. But at the end of the day – it was all worth fighting for. Having this business gave us an opportunity to learn so many things, meet amazing people in the industry and become so much more independent. I would not change anything in our story for the world!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is a tough one! Being that we work almost 24/7 it gives us almost no time to go out and check out the fun spots in the city, besides the places we visit when related to work and events we decorate 🙂 I would definitely say Fort Worth Stockyards – this is one of the things that amazed me the most when I first moved to DFW. You can also grab some awesome ribs at Riscky’s Barbecue!
I am totally in love with the country side of Dallas – especially when you are heading out towards Waxahachie – farms and nature just makes me so happy and warm inside.
I think one of the nicest areas I would want to mention would be Bishop Arts District – this is actually where our office is and we just love the spirit of this fast growing neighborhood. You can get some amazing pizza at Paradiso or grab couple drinks after a long day at work from Whitehall Exchange. Happiest hour would also be a must visit bar for anyone who is visiting Dallas.
Oh and for steak lovers I would definitely recommend Del Frisco’s and Truluck’s!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely love to give the biggest shoutout to my business partner and part owner of WOW Balloons Daria Harbach who has been my partner in crime throughout those past 2 years that we have been in business. It is so important to have someone you can rely on and walk through this difficult road with. I know we would definitely not make it that far if we would not have each others support and knowledge.
