We had the good fortune of connecting with Dustin Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dustin, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
The funny thing is that everyone single person makes mistakes in their lives and they do things they are not proud of. One can do hundreds of great things but be remembered for one mistake or error of judgment. I have often thought about how I want to be remembered after I leave this world. When we pass away, there will be four definite things on our headstone. They will certainly inscribe our name, date of birth, and the day we died in the stone, and between those two dates, there is a dash. The “dash” is my legacy. That is how I will be remembered. What did I do to help others? How did my business contribute to society? Was I loving, caring, and sharing?

I don’t want to be remembered for my wealth or entrepreneurial brilliance. I want people to remember that I cared deeply about everyone, and that I helped people, even if I barely knew them. I want to be remembered as someone who dedicated his time and life to helping others succeed, and that I helped others change their thinking to realize that they can accomplish anything that they set their mind to. I don’t want to be remembered individually, but I want to have such a positive impact on those that I work with that my legacy is visible in the lives of those who worked with me personally, and I hope my legacy doesn’t just impact those that knew me personally, but that it has a positive effect on the families and generations of entrepreneurs who come long after me.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am an entrepreneur, author, and business development coach. My primary experience is in the network marketing and personal development industry, though I have owned and started a variety of companies, which include restaurants and nightclubs, a cabinet manufacturing company, a commercial printing company, a magazine, and a real estate development firm. He is currently a partner with Neora, an anti-aging skincare, hair care, and wellness company in Dallas, Texas. He is president of Dustin Mitchell, LLC and DCM Holdings Group, LLC.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to eat at Nick and Sams. After that, we would likely visit Oaklawn and hit up a few of the bars and clubs on Cedar Springs. We would have to catch a Rangers or Mavs game, depending on the season.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had many mentors over the course of my life, and I would love to list them all, but that would take way too much space, so I would like to give a shout out to the four who have made the most impact on my life. Without Jeff Olson, Bob Proctor, Frank Keefer, and the late Dan Gaub, I would never have developed the attitude and mindset necessary to succeed as an entrepreneur.
