We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Faith Robertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Faith, how do you define success?
Success looks different for different people. I don’t think there’s just one ingredient that defines success. I think the definition of success is very personal. The world may look at success from a monetary standpoint but there are millionaires who are depressed and have a hard time just facing the day. If I had to choose three words to define success it would be freedom, peace, and happiness. At the end of the day, I think that everyone desires to be free….free to be your authentic self, free to love, free to grow and explore, freedom to make mistakes and learn from them without being judged, and even financial freedom. Success is going to bed every night without worry or fear and truly resting because your heart and mind are at peace. Success is waking up the next day and smiling before you even get out of bed because life just feels good. You feel like you’re finally doing, not what you were PAID for, but what you were MADE for. That is success! Of course, having your finances in order so that you can live the life you’ve always dreamed of and be a blessing to others are part of that picture of what I define as success.  I walk in freedom, peace, and happiness on a daily basis. I am indeed a successful woman!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey is very interesting. It didn’t follow the path that was expected of me or what I even expected of myself. In 1998, I became one of only two black female Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Texas. Throughout that 20 years, I served my colleagues in community, mentored, trained, taught, consulted, diagnosed, treated, corrected, all in a spirit of excellence. To my surprise when I thought that I had at least another 10 years of private practice left in me, God told me it was time to retire. I didn’t know what He had in store for me I only knew that I had to trust Him. I always say that retirement was the scariest and best thing that ever happened to me. It afforded me the opportunity to pursue one of my greatest passions and that is skincare.. At 53 years old, I have shifted my career from the operating room to the treatment room and I could not be happier. My medical mind and my passion for beauty has made me a force to be reckoned with. My most recent accomplishment has come to fruition after many years of studying, researching, and much trial and error. I am so pleased to announce the release of TRUTH by Dr. Faith, my medical grade, high performance luxury skincare line.  This is a dream come true for me. At the present, TRUTH by Dr. Faith is exclusively available to my personal clients but will be launched to the public very soon. Stay tuned Shout-out DFW.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to give recognition to my heavenly angel, my mother. I think she knew that I would only have her on this Earth for 23 years so she started early and stealing values and principles that would carry me throughout my adult life. She was the example of tenacity and determination. Her family was always first. She sacrificed endlessly to provide for her children in such unimaginable ways. I’ve always said if I could be half the mother that she was, then I’m knocking this thing out of the park! She encouraged me to become a doctor. But she also taught me tools of the trade of the beauty industry. I’m now at a space in my life where I have been a successful surgeon for 20 years and now I can capitalize on the lessons that she taught me and marry both of my passions in what I’m pursuing today. My mother passed away when I was 23 years old, over 30 years ago. Throughout my adult life, God has always placed wonderful mentors to guide me along the way. These were women of stature and power that shaped me into the woman that I am today. Mentorship matters. I’m thankful for every mentor that spoke over my life, sowed into my life, instructed me, corrected me and guided me along life’s journey! I’m here because they were there.
