We had the good fortune of connecting with Doc Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Doc, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success as YOU Success which means discovering your God-given purpose and then passionately pursuing that. Obedience to God is success in my eyes. One must seek God and pay close attention to visions and dreams. God often spoke to individuals in dreams and visions and sealed their instructions. Job 33:14-16

Success is not generic. God gives each one of us a unique assignment and this creates our lane and space. Once we understand this, we will no longer compete but we will dominate in our own space. Entrepreneurs must focus on their assignments and not spend time trying to see what “competitors” are doing. Find your gift. What makes you the “specialists”? The Specialists get paid the most than a general surgeon. Once a person discovers their GIFT they can now discover the path that leads to YOU Success!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company is The 8:18 Division/Widman University. It is a Business and Success Coaching School where I have the privilege to coach entrepreneurs to discover their unique path in life, ministry, and business. I started with a few students around 2004 and have taught hundreds of students since then. We have launched the YOU Success 8-Week Coaching Course and are now traveling the nation hosting YOU Success Seminars.

What sets me apart is I focus on making sure your BRAND is relevant to today’s time as well as always looking ahead to see what the future will look like. Always be ready to switch in the middle of the road. I also train them to focus more on customer service rather than just their design and aesthetics.

I also teach people that success is not about size but rather the specifics of the vision or assignment. The measure of success is ONLY measured by their unique assignment. I also teach that people’s passions are not always their purpose. We must discover our purpose first, and then the purpose creates our passion. It must be in that order. If not, we will find things that we get passionate about and can miss the will of God and do things that we were NEVER meant to do. Operating in your unique design equates to true success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first take them to our Church called Everywhere Church. Then we would visit these places:

The Shops at Legacy
Legacy Hall
Stonebriar Mall and visit the Capitol One Cafe to chill and drink Coffee
TLC Vegan Restaurant

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to send a shout-out to Dr. Bill Winston, Peter Daniels, and Pastor Mark Hankins. They all played an important role in shaping me into the person I am today.
