We had the good fortune of connecting with Devynn Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devynn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started my business, I actually didn’t even realize that’s what I was doing! I’ve always been a hard worker, having my first job at 15 and realizing at even such a young age that I wanted something bigger and better for myself. I was always dedicated to work, gave my all and always went above and beyond. However, I always felt like there was more to life than the retail and fast food jobs I was working. It wasn’t until I had kids that I realized I had to make a change in my work environment to better fit my busy life as a mother. I wanted to be there for my kids. I didn’t want to miss out on games and recitals simply because I had to clock in at a job. Once I found my calling in the beauty industry, I decided to dedicate more time to perfecting my craft and building my own brand /business. Little did I know, 6 years later, I would still be thriving in a successful career that I built for myself, unknowingly.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is pretty much a one stop shop for all things beauty! I am currently the lead esthetician and master lash artist for my company. Although, I love all things skin care and helping my clients reach their skin care goals, my specialty is lash extensions! I also offer brow services like waxing and tinting, and most recently have just started body contouring services such as laser lipo, cavitation 2.0 and skin tightening. I would love in the near future to add on to my team a makeup artist, micro-blading specialist and more! I have recently taken the next step Into my career and became a certified educator through one of the biggest lash extension companies in the industry. This was a big and exciting step for me, as now I get to share my love of lash extensions through teaching others how to apply them! While talking of my business now is super easy and fun, it wasn’t always that. There were many long nights, and early days. For 3 years, I worked 7 days a week because I knew I had to dedicate myself to my business in order to reach the potential I knew I was capable of! There were days of having to sacrifice a set pay. I knew I wanted and deserved because putting back into my business was more important during that early building phase. I’ve definitely learned to be patient with myself! As a entrepreneur and business owner, I feel like you are your own worst enemy. You will doubt yourself, overthink things and just be down right hard on yourself. I really had to learn that good things take time and greater things take even more time. I’ve learned a lot of discipline on this path. With all that being said I’m happy to say I’m here still here! My business has survived many obstacles and I couldn’t be happier. My clients mean the world to me. I feel like I dedicate so much of myself to them, I love making them feel like an even greater version of themselves.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
1st and foremost, God. There were many days / times where I simply didn’t not know where I was going, or where my business was heading. Simply by keeping faith in the vision I feel he had for me I was able to push through and accomplish so much. Secondly, my fiancé and my children. For their patience with me. There were many days that I worked long hours, there were weeks where I didn’t have a day off, and times where all I talked about was boring business things. They supported, they loved me, the pushed me, the kept me going, and for that I’m forever grateful. Last but not least, my clients. I feel like I have some of the most dedicated, supportive and loyal clients in the world! I have many that have stuck with me the whole 6 years of building my career. They’ve hyped me up and kept me going much more than they know!
