We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Leigh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The Dancing Queen began during a hard time in my life. Everything was taken from me. 2020 My senior year at Wiley College, I got in trouble on campus and I had to sit out from all campus activities for a semester. The only thing I was allowed to do was Dance! I took a heels class and after that I feel in love. I had already train in ballet, modern, and other styles but heels made me feel sexy. I made a promise to myself that I would have a business before I graduate college. I fought because I DID NOT want to be a dancer because I was good at so many other things too. I sing, act, direct, write scripts, poetry, music, and choreograph. I never wanted to be put in a box. When I had nothing else, I only had Dance and that pushed me to become “The Dancing Queen.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Dancing Queen is a Global Dance Network for performing artist. My goal is to bring Hollywood to Dirty Dirty Dallas. I intend to raise the bar and provide and train the best dancers and choreography to any project I am on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely check out the African American Museum in Fair Park. Of course I love going to dance classes, Texas Live, and Carnell’s Cakery, they have the best sweets. Thank me later

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Having people that believe in you is so important. I am so grateful to each person that shows me kindness, who comes to class, tells friends or family, those who watch, and those who help me create. My entire Dallas Community from all styles, all studios, music artist and cultural curators. This city runs off of their magnificent creativity. THANK YOU!!

My granny is who raised me. If not for her I would not be who I am. She is my rock and she loves under no conditions. I am grateful to be loved by her, to live with her, and to get her great advice. Her words pull me out of the darkest times and I hope to be as special as she is.
