We had the good fortune of connecting with Denzel Demby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denzel, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been creative since I was a little boy. I feel like my sensitive and intuitive nature made me feel connected to art, fashion, poetry, and photography. I’ve been designing jewelry since 2010 and styling since I was a teenager. I started selling my jewelry pieces in 2012 and opened my first website in 2015. I love making something out of nothing, and being creative sometimes you have to work with what you have. I enjoy creating different looks and designing new jewelry pieces. I love to sketch and transfer what I have in my mind onto paper.

While my academic background is in business and management, I use my creative side to bring balance to my career. While pursuing my MBA last year, I still made time to design, shoot, and write new poems. Even if I had a paper or exam to do, I made time for my business. It’s something I will always feel connected to and you can’t put a salary on your passion. I love the fact that every day brings a new opportunity to create something new. I remember when I was In high school, all I wanted to do was move to a big city and pursue my passion. Overall it’s hard to pick one thing that I love the most as a creative. I love fashion, poetry, music, sketching, and photography. However, I feel that fashion and styling are where I find myself focusing the most. If it’s God’s will I hope to build an empire in the fashion industry. I want to show young black males, that they have options besides, football or basketball. I want to show them that you can be anything. Being a creative is a journey and sometimes you have to push yourself to work. Life can get in the way sometimes but you have to trust the vision God gave you and stay focused.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Denzel Demby and I’m the owner and designer of discern jewelry, an online jewelry store that I started back in 2012. I’m also a style influencer, stylist, model, and photographer. What sets me apart is that I’m fluid in terms of my style. I love trying new things and I’m not afraid of wearing something that’s not popular or on-trend. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve landed few clothing partnerships on 2022. I’m excited about the new collections that I’m working on for 2022. I look forward to creating new content and sharing them with my peers. My journey has been a rollercoaster to say the least. I had to learn how to trust in God’s timing and be patient with myself. I remember when I wanted to grow my following and take my craft seriously. I used to think there’s no point in pursuing this. I thought there are thousands of content creators doing the same thing as me and what if I don’t stand out. I started to question everything from my business to my skills. After praying, I realized that it doesn’t matter how many people do what I do. Whatever God has for me will be for me and that brought me peace. Moving forward I want to build a legacy on my character and being a great example. When people think of me or my brands, I want them to think of honesty, integrity, and doing the right thing. I want people to know that God can place you exactly where you are supposed to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friends were in town I would like to take them to my favorite spots in town. I would take them to Edoko Sushi in Frisco, Texas. They have the best sushi in the Frisco area and the lounge area is amazing. For entertainment, I would take them to The Dallas World Aquarium. I went there the last time my family came to visit and it was a fun experience. For shopping, I would go to Northpark. I know it’s the type to visit the mall but the environment of Northpark is great. I love the scenery, shopping, and dining. Lastly, I would stroll Downtown Dallas. There’s always something to do or get into in this city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my twin brother, for always having my back and pushing me to be the best version of me. I would also like to give a shoutout to my family and friends for always supporting me and building me up. I thank God for them daily.
