We had the good fortune of connecting with PeezyGoHard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi PeezyGoHard, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Black Dollar Records was inspired by my early exposure to reading and staying informed, particularly during my time living with my aunt. My passion in learning led me to discover the history of Tulsa Oklahoma’s Black Wall Street in the 1920s, where i was inspired by the thriving black-owned communities business practices & culture in the face of racism and segregation. I thought to myself, what could i have contributed at that time to further the success of such a small but enlightened town? I envisioned a 100% black-owned music label that would empower artists by providing them with knowledge and control over their work such as the citizens of Tulsa had, in contrast to traditional labels that often exploit artists. My goal is to create a label that focuses on equal leverage between the label and the artist, disrupting the industry’s colonial practices.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of the opportunities i have been able to provide for my community by creating a brand that artists, producers & creatives of all types can believe in.
Ive gotten to where i am today by valuing honest business practices and fighting for what i believe in, each fight is different and each has its own challenges but the way i overcome is to adapt and alter the blueprint. The most important lesson i learned is Never change the design.
I want the world to know that Black Dollar Records is for you by you. We welcome everyone. Black representing the darkness we come from, The dollar representing community & Records representing the importance of retaining our history. #BDR🌍
