We had the good fortune of connecting with David Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2019 I was working for a telecom retailer, and witnessed countless people having tech support issues with nowhere to turn, without being pressured to buy product. They would drive 20 mintues and wait in queues just for a simple tech issue.
I started Detechtive, first and foremost, because I enjoy tech support and excel at problem solving. Delivering tech solutions and establishing a business with customer service as the main priority gives clients peace of mind that I have their best interest at heart.
This has proven to be a need and my customers have appreciated having their lives simplified.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Detechtive our goal is to solve your tech issue or give you the best advice possible. We have no product to push, no metrics to achieve. We can resolve your phone and computer issues or consult on an upcoming electronic purchase. We can even give one on one lessons with any device to make your life simple. We do all of this for just 75 dollars an hour! Why pay for each individual problem to be solved when we can solve all of them all for you for one rate.
Setting up the business was actually pretty simple. I first started Detechtive by just word of mouth recommendations. Then they saw how simple it was to call me to solve the problem and they never looked back.
The real challenge I was having was how can I reach more people. I spent time and money on different advertising approaches with some working out well and others not so much. Even when business was going slower than expected I didn’t quit because I knew if customers just gave us a shot we can save them time and money.
I want the world to know I am very good at tech support and problem solving, furthermore I am passionate about it. Hearing about people waiting hours on the phone for help, or wasting time driving somewhere to maybe get a solution to a problem I could fix in minutes. This is what drove me to create Detechtive and is why I love doing what I do. Your time is important and your tech just has to work so let a Detechtive solve your problem.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I actually had a close couple of friends of mine come down from Jersey recently. First night in Addison, I took them to Texas Brazil to start them off with all you can eat barbecue. Then the next day, stockades in Fort Worth in the afternoon, and Billy Bob’s for lunch before heading back to Dallas before rush hour to hit the state fair for the night. Then the next morning we stood in line for Cattleack barbecue which is the best, and then to Eagle gun shooting for some fun. All in all, it was a fun time to spend with good friends
In my view walking around Bishops Arts District for some food and drink is always a good time. Deep Ellum can also be a good time as well, but I’m always down for a Mavericks game at American Airlines Arena.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is the reason I am here today, being adopted at 3 days old and raised with the work ethic and drive needed to succeed. I would have nothing without my loved ones around me.
