We had the good fortune of connecting with Dalel Belaid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dalel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, the idea for The Slam Crew came from seeing how powerful basketball can be when it’s used the right way. I’ve been around the sport my whole life, and I’ve watched how kids light up when they see something exciting, inspiring, and different. I realized there was a huge opportunity to build something bigger than just a team — something that could tour, entertain, inspire, and motivate all at the same time.
I wanted to create a global brand that could reach communities everywhere, not just through games, but through show basketball, school assemblies, camps, and hands-free programs that actually make an impact. The mission was simple:
Use basketball as a platform to change lives and spark a movement in each community we visit.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Slam Crew is America’s premier show basketball team. We are a high-energy entertainment team that uses sports as a bridge to inspire, educate, and empower youth. We combine elite athletic performance with meaningful messages that create a lasting impact beyond the court. www.theslamcrew.com

I got here through persistence, not ease. I came to the U.S. from Tunisia with nothing but a backpack and a dream, and by staying consistent, learning from failure, and surrounding myself with the right people, I turned challenges into forward momentum. Some of the biggest challenges were starting with limited resources, building credibility from the ground up, and learning how to turn a vision into a real, sustainable business. I overcame them by staying disciplined, being willing to learn, accepting rejection as part of growth, and leaning on the people around me who believed in the mission when results weren’t immediate. I want the world to know that The Slam Crew was built on belief, resilience, and purpose—not shortcuts. Our story is about using basketball as a bridge to create real impact, inspire young people, and prove that where you start doesn’t limit where you can go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love Dallas! It is confident, driven, and always building. You’ll meet entrepreneurs, athletes, creatives, and leaders everywhere you go. It’s a city that pushes you to think bigger — which is why I love it. A full day would start with a walk: Klyde Warren Park, catch a Dallas Mavericks game at the American Airlines Center, and Dinner at Reunion Tower.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I’m asked who deserves credit in my The Slam Crew’s story, the answer starts long before The Slam Crew existed.

I came to the United States from Tunisia with nothing but a backpack and a dream. No guarantees. No safety net. Just belief, faith, and the willingness to work. That journey shaped how I see opportunity, resilience, and responsibility. It’s the foundation of everything I’ve helped build with this team.

There are people who made that journey possible by believing in me when I was still figuring things out. Mentors, coaches, and visionaries who didn’t just help me learn the game—but helped me learn life. Their guidance taught me discipline, humility, and the importance of giving back.

One person who deserves special recognition is Corey, our Head Coach at The Slam Crew. Corey has been instrumental in helping shape the future vision of this organization. His leadership, honesty, and commitment to doing things the right way have helped turn ideas into structure and purpose. He challenges the vision, strengthens it, and keeps it grounded in impact.

I also want to recognize the schools, administrators, and community leaders who trusted us early. Their belief gave The Slam Crew the opportunity to grow by serving students and communities.

The Slam Crew exists because of shared belief, shared effort, and shared purpose. My journey may have started alone, but this mission has never been.
