We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 14 years. At the beginning of my career, I started in oncology as a chemo-certified Nurse in Cheyenne Wyoming. I took great pride in comforting people during the worst time of their lives. I was grateful to be a bright light in an otherwise extremely dark time for these patients. While there, I had a patient who had lost all of her hair due to chemo treatments. I noticed that her brows were done every morning before I arrived. She told me she had permanent makeup done on her brows in California a few years before. I thought this was an incredible treatment for patients going through chemotherapy that had lost all of their hair. Permanent makeup was able to make her look better and feel better while battling cancer. I was inspired to look for the best education to become certified in permanent makeup to help my chemo patients. I completed several different training programs and opened my first Spa in Cheyenne Wyoming. After opening the Spa, I continued to work in the hospital in oncology, the ICU, and the ER for the next 2 years.
My family and I moved to Fort Worth in 2016 and I relocated my Spa to Texas. I did continue to Nurse part-time in the hospital in the Critical Care unit as well as a same-day surgery center for another 4 years. I absolutely love Fort Worth and I will never leave! My business A Nurses Touch Spa has absolutely flourished here. I went from running the Spa myself to 2 employees to now having a team of 6 including myself. We have won several awards in the last 5 years including best esthetician and permanent makeup from the Fort Worth Magazine. We offer Permanent Makeup, Electrolysis Permanent Hair removal, and esthetics treatments. It has been a true blessing every day to do what I love

What should our readers know about your business?
A Nurses Touch Spa has been a growing, thriving business I am blessed to own. I started this business by myself doing permanent makeup on the side while I was still working full-time as a Nurse. I was shocked to learn that the permanent makeup industry is unregulated. In nursing, everything is regulated. Also, if you do not know how to do something you can find a book or ask an expert. Initially, I learned that permanent makeup is not this way. You do need to have a tattoo license and the health department is involved but they really only regulate cleansing procedures.

I used my experience in Nursing to create my procedures to give my clients the best results. Being a medical professional has given me a huge competitive advantage in this industry. I have found people do not want to trust a facial procedure to just anyone. I strive to always put my clients first because I understand that this can be a stressful and emotional process. I use medical-grade numbing cream, a sterile environment, the best ink, and thorough aftercare procedures.

As time went on my business started to grow exponentially. It was an adventure learning to navigate new services, website design, social media, scheduling systems, inventory, and hiring new employees. A Nurses Touch has grown to offer electrolysis permanent hair removal which I am very passionate about. Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that is legally permanent. It is safe for all skin types, colors, and locations. Laser is not legally permanent according to the FDA. Electrolysis has helped change people’s lives by getting rid of unwanted hair, especially facial hair. Including myself, we have two permanent makeup artists and three estheticians. We offer facials, peels, microneedling, and custom facials we build to meet our client’s wants and needs. A Nurses Touch Spa is the only spa of its kind that offers these types of services all in one location.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For people who are visiting from out of town, I highly recommend starting in Sundance Square located in downtown Fort Worth. For dinner, you should check out Simply Fondue. Simply Fondue is a melting pot-style interactive restaurant full of flavor and fun and you will leave full. For drinks after dinner, one of my favorite places in Fort Worth is the skyscraper bar called the Refinery 714; located at the top of the Kimpton Hotel on the 28th Floor. It is a casual bar with views of the whole city. For late-night ventures, I recommend going to Hyena’s comedy club. We have seen some amazing shows here with big-name guests. I laughed until my cheeks hurt! Fort Worth has proven to be the most amazing place to live and work. We moved here from Colorado 7 years ago and we will never leave.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Like all businesses, they all start from a casual idea. This idea turns into passion and then into reality. What made my business idea a reality was not just my personal hard work but the incredible support from my husband Ryan Williams. Ryan was there from the start. I have to be grateful for the love and support from the scary expensive start-up process, signing my 1st big commercial lease, hiring my amazing employees, to celebrating our success at the award ceremonies. I am truly grateful for where my life has taken me and I could not have done it without Ryan.
