We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, how do you think about risk?
Who starts a business in January 2020?! Well, that’s exactly what my husband and I did. Without knowing what the year was to bring, we took a big leap of faith by launching an art installation company called, Art Detail (www.artdetailco.com). We work with award-winning Interior Designers from across DFW and Texas, and projects that take us to every corner of the US. Starting a company in early 2020 was the biggest risk that had the biggest reward. Dallas was the perfect place to start our business!

Risk is not something I would always jump for. Risk comes with the fear of failure, and that is something that I’ve learned to overcome to advance my career and personal goals. Straight out of college, I moved from Wisconsin to Dallas without knowing a single person in Texas. An opportunity presented itself with The Wall Street Journal to work in digital advertising. With a brand like WSJ, I had to balance my excitement with logic. What would be the long-term goal? What are the steps I need to take to be successful in my career? WSJ was a stepping stone. Although Wisconsin will always have my heart, Dallas presented an opportunity. I took the leap of faith. It was the best decision I could’ve ever made.

Dallas opens doors to well-known brands, connects you with top business leaders and offers a wonderful place to settle and grow a family. I currently sell advertising for SiriusXM/Pandora where I work with nationally recognized brands and advertising agencies across the US. As a sales rep, risk taking happens daily.

When considering a risk, I think through the steps…from my end goal to the realistic steps to get there. Without taking risk, how will I better myself? How will I get to where I want to go in life? Not everything in life is handed to you. Not everyone gets a participation trophy. Hard work and dedication goes into everything I do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Art Detail is our name of our brand but we truly put the word ‘detail’ into everything we do. From the detail that goes into our work to the attention to detail in our customer service. Art Detail provides custom art and furniture installation services for residential and commercial businesses for Interior Designers or high-end home owners. When people think about Interior Designers, the crew who completes the install are often a forgotten part of the process. We get the fun part of seeing a project from start to finish, and a customers face light up when they see their vision come to life!

Launching a business in 2020 was a big leap of faith. My husband has been in the Interior Design installation industry for over 12 years. He does incredible work with his hands and has an eye to mount anything perfectly. Pairing his skill with my business and customer service experience, we decided it was time to start making money for ourselves. Of course, this comes with expense but in the long run we knew the payoff was there.

Dallas Interior Designers knew of my husband’s craftsmanship. We immediately received phone calls with projects, and word of mouth of Art Detail began to spread around the Dallas Design District. Despite the world changing in March 2020, this actually was a blessing in disguise. With people sitting at home, this presented opportunities for people who got the itch to re-design their home and design their vacation homes. This was the start to Art Detail’s success, and we haven’t stopped since.

Art Detail has grown working with several Interior Designers, and many clients across DFW, Texas and the US. One thing that has remained consistent is the detail we put into every aspect of our business. As a small operation, we are grateful for the opportunities this business has presented and what it has done for our family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
DFW has so much to offer! Although I don’t recommend visiting during August (hello, Texas sunshine!), unless you’re planning to stay in the air conditioning or dip in a pool. Throughout the year, there are so many festivals or live music concerts happening.

If you’re planning a trip, definitely check out the unique neighborhoods that Dallas has to offer.
> Deep Ellum has a laid back vibe with breweries and walkable shops. My favorite is Jade & Clover which is a CUTE boutique where you can literally make your own succulent.
> Lower Greenville has many fun spots. Check out Truck Yard where you can sit outside, enjoy a cocktail and food from some of Dallas’ top food trucks. Be sure to stop by Bullzerk to get your Dallas-themed t-shirt.
>Trinity Groves has an amazing walking path with a GORGEOUS view of the city. There are also restaurants for nearly anything you’re craving — from Italian, TexMex, sushi to pizza.
>The Farmer’s Market in downtown Dallas sounds like a tourist hotspot, but honestly, you’ll find some of the best food and shops there. Line up early at Pecan Lodge for some of the BEST BBQ in Dallas (also Guy Fieri approves) – once it’s gone, it’s gone. Scardello cheese has the best cheeses from around the world. They have a second location where you can literally take a cheese & wine pairing class – this is not your average cheese tasting.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first moved to Dallas, a woman named Abby Egan was a mentor to me. Whether she knew it or not, I looked up to her. She was a successful business woman, crushing the wife/mom life and is all-around motivated and determined to be successful in everything she does. I worked with Abby at The Wall Street Journal. She is now an entrepreneur and focused on family. Her mentorship has guided me to think about the bigger picture in life to be successful. Although the daily grind may seem small, its the stepping stones that make a difference in getting to the next chapter of life.
