Meet Cristina “Kiki” Shugert | Mother and Owner @ Kiki’s House Cleaning

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina “Kiki” Shugert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cristina “Kiki”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Kiki’s House Cleaning because I saw a real gap between what people were paying and the quality of service they were getting. A lot of cleaning companies were inconsistent, hard to reach, or just not reliable. I felt there was an opportunity to do it better.
At the beginning, my focus was simple. Show up on time, communicate clearly, and do the job right every single time. I also wanted to build something that didn’t depend on me being involved in every cleaning. The goal was to create a business with solid systems that customers could trust and cleaners could rely on for steady work.
What started as a practical idea grew quickly as demand increased. That confirmed there was a real need for a professional, dependable cleaning company that still felt personal. That’s what continues to drive how we run Kiki’s House Cleaning today.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kiki’s House Cleaning is built around consistency, communication, and trust. What sets us apart is that we run the business with clear systems behind the scenes so customers get the same reliable experience every time, not just when the owner is involved. We focus on showing up on time, doing the job right, and being easy to work with. That sounds simple, but in this industry it makes a big difference.
What I’m most proud of is the growth we’ve had without cutting corners. We’ve cleaned thousands of homes and built a strong base of repeat customers who refer us to friends and family. That didn’t happen overnight. Getting here wasn’t easy. There were a lot of long days, mistakes, and learning as we went. Staffing, scheduling, and maintaining quality as we grew were some of the biggest challenges. I overcame them by putting better systems in place, listening closely to customer feedback, and being willing to adjust instead of forcing things to work.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that simplicity and consistency beat everything else. You don’t need to overpromise. You need to deliver, every time. I’ve also learned that building a business is more about people than anything else. Taking care of customers and cleaners is what creates long-term success.
What I want people to know about our brand is that we take pride in what we do. We’re not trying to be the biggest cleaning company overnight. We’re focused on being dependable, professional, and earning trust one home at a time. Our story is about steady growth, learning through challenges, and building something that lasts.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d want to give them a real DFW experience, not just the tourist spots. We’d start in McKinney and the surrounding areas. Downtown McKinney is a must. Good food, walkable, and a great place to hang out. I’d take them to Hutchins BBQ or Hard Eight for Texas barbecue, and then grab drinks at one of the local spots around the square.
During the week, we’d spend time in Dallas proper. I’d take them to Bishop Arts for food and drinks, Deep Ellum for live music, and Klyde Warren Park to relax and people-watch. For dinner, places like Nick & Sam’s or a solid taco spot would be on the list, depending on the night. For drinks, rooftop bars or casual patios always make the list.
We’d also do something outdoors. White Rock Lake for a walk or bike ride, and if the weather’s good, maybe a day trip out to Grapevine or Fort Worth Stockyards for a different Texas feel. One night would definitely be a game or event, whether it’s the Mavs, Stars, or just catching something live.
What makes DFW fun is the mix of people and energy. There’s always something going on, great food everywhere, and a balance between laid-back neighborhoods and big-city nightlife. It’s a place where you can keep it low-key or go all out, depending on the day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d honestly dedicate this shoutout to a few people and groups. First, my family. Their support and patience while I was building the business meant everything, especially during the early days when time, money, and energy were all stretched thin.
I also want to give a lot of credit to the cleaners who trusted me early on. Building a service business only works when the people doing the work take pride in it, and they helped shape the standards we’re known for today.
Lastly, I’d shout out our customers. Many of our early clients took a chance on a small, growing company and stuck with us. Their feedback, referrals, and trust played a huge role in getting Kiki’s House Cleaning to where it is now.
