Meet Contrina “jala” Jenkins | Writer, Director, & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Contrina “jala” Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Contrina “Jala”, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My overall goal is to be a part of the mainstream film world. I would also love to be the creator and lead writer of a TV series.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being an independent filmmaker is not easy and it isn’t for the weak. JalaWorld Productions works hard to create content that entertains others. We tried to include life lessons and laughter in every production. With every production, elevate from our last production. We believe in quality over quantity, refusing to compromise the integrity of our projects.
We currently have three films streaming on major platforms: Pipe Dreams, Fair Play, and Plain Sight. We also have a short film that has been in film festivals and received recognition, “Definition of Manhood. We recently partnered with Sol Caritas and created a faith-based film “House Without Father” that has been in several film festivals and received awards and honorable mentions. JWP is currently in post-production with our new film “Skulls and Butterflies” with IdoMedia that will premiere at the end of this year. Our new project HiStory will begin filming in 2025.
 One of the biggest challenges we face is being an independent creator. We finance the majority of our productions along with donations from family, friends, and the community. We are always looking for investors and partners that share the same vision as JWP.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are going to start out with a poetry night at B’s Wine Bar hosted by “Black Snow” where our minds will be stimulated. Then we are stopping by Happy Daiquri To Go and get a dairquri and order of boudin balls. And pick up desserts from Crumbville.
Houston is filled with many independent restaurants. We would visit 100 Grand, Mimi New Orleans Cafe, and The Breakfast Klub, We also stopped at Kulture and hear the beautiful voice of Miriam Echo. I would take her shopping at JenniBelle Boutique. That Sunday we going to check out the Poetry Lounge hosted by Se7en. And we would close out the trip with a show hosted by Sol Caritas and stop by The Ensemble and MATCH for a play.

JalaWorld Production success is because of our production team’s hard work and dedication, which includes Vincent Johnson, Courtney Dirden, and Rhonda Adams. Our partnerships with Ido Media and Sol Caritas. Also every actor and actress that have displayed their talents in our movies and plays.
