We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Cowan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. My husband, Eric, daughter, Kaylynn, and I are temporarily living in Lubbock, but our true home is in Fort Worth where we visit our son, Cody, our daughter in-law, Amanda, and our grandsons, Brayden and Bridger as often as possible.
Pets have been part of my whole life! There was a time as a junior in high school that I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. My favorite program was “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau”! But, life took me on a different path.
I got a B.S in Computer Science, married my husband of 34 years and moved a few times because Eric was in the Marine Corps. I had several jobs working with computers and software.
I started my journey in natural health solutions by becoming a customer who was suffering from side effects of Western Medicine for several years. I was at a networking event and met a woman who was offering free organic hand scrubs using essential oils. We struck up a conversation and I signed up to receive her newsletter. Once I started reading about the incredible benefits of using therapeutic-grade essential oils, I called her and asked for recommendations for allergies and sinus infections. I purchased these oils and finally felt relief! I transitioned my medicine cabinet to all natural products and never looked back!
I had been thinking about doing something more with my essential oil business, Texas Oil Lady. I knew that I love helping people feel better with natural solutions and I knew that I also love animals. Visiting aquariums and zoos is my favorite activity! And of course, being a pet owner!
I decided this past summer to take a course from an established veterinarian in Austin, Texas who specializes in using essential oils and other organic products for animal care. It was the best workshop that I have ever taken!
Animals need emotional and health care just like their owners and now I can provide solutions for all!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a doTERRA Wellness Advocate since 2017. I enjoy educating and sharing natural and toxin-free solutions for one’s emotional and health wellness and lifestyle. When I started network marketing in 2019 with Master Networks, I did not have any knowledge of business networking and / or marketing. This organization was exactly what I needed because it has weekly one hour meetings with business training information. I’ve been a member for three years now and I’m still learning! I also learned that I needed to brand myself. It was my turn to do my sound bite during a meeting in October of 2021 and for some crazy reason, I said at the end of my sound bite, “I want to be your Texas Oil Lady” and everyone loved it!
It was about 6 weeks later that “Texas Oil Lady” brand was created by my friend and colleague, MJ Wilkins of MJ Wilkins Designs! She helped me with my social media blast packs and 2022 was the year that I finally started to gain momentum, new followers and customers.
I wanted to do more to educate people about using natural solutions, not only for themselves, but for their pets and farm animals. The summer of 2022 is when I got my Animal Aromatherapy certification. My goal is to increase education about how powerful essential oils can be used for humans and animals emotional and health issues.
When I’m introducing myself or saying my sound bite, I say “I’m Cindy Cowan, the “Texas Oil Lady”. I’m not talking about crude oil or avocado oil, I’m talking about Essential Oils! Let’s chat!”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to downtown Fort Worth. I love to visit restaurants that have been around for a long time!
Breakfast would be at Ol’ South Pancake House. Their breakfast plates remind me of my Granny’s made from scratch meals. Lunch would be at Joe T. Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant. Their food is so delicious, and the Margaritas are amazing. Dinner would be at the Reata Restaurant. I love the food, decor and if you are seated on the rooftop, it is so pretty at night!
There is so much to do. Shopping, Sundance Square, the Stockyards to watch the cattle drive and so many other places to eat, drink, dance and listen to music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my mother, Lois Fischer. She taught me so many things about life. Her love for family, friends and animals made me the person that I am today. She was my best friend. She was my rock when my husband was overseas during Operation Desert Storm.
Cancer took her too soon! She was only 58 years old. I wish she could have seen that I started my own holistic wellness business. I wish she could have had more time to enjoy life with us, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
