We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Brackens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cierra, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Yes, my favorite quote would have to be “Let God do his job”. This isn’t a famous quote by a well known individual, but something my client and good friend said to me just recently. I struggle with completely surrendering my life to God. I consider myself to be extremely independent and capable of doing any and everything alone. Sometimes to the point of being disobedient to what God has told me to do. I am also impatient (I know right, I’m just a hot mess!) Independence, apart from God, and impatience coupled together will have me doing what I want and on my own time. While in that moment I think I’ve made the right decision I soon learn that I did not. In this season of my life, where God is trying to mold me to be more like him, telling myself to “Let God do his job” is my constant reminder that he has already got it figured out. He’s known my needs well before they became a need and has already provided my solution. This quote reminds me to have faith that He’s got me and I have absolutely nothing to worry about as long as I remain in his will. It’s not my job to provide my needs but His, and when I let me him do what he said he would do everything will turn out exactly how its supposed to.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
YV FITNESS is a personal training business that strives to help individuals FIND THEIR FIT. I’m a certified personal trainer and certified corrective exercise specialist. My specialty is functional and foundational movement. With each client I start with the foundation: proper movement and technique. I want to ensure my clients can perform the most basic movement patterns correctly and then consistently build on top of that. I believe proper technique and movement are not only important in exercise but in maintaining quality of life.

What sets me apart from others is that my training style is intentional. Each exercise I prescribe my clients has a purpose. My exercise program is personalized and tailored to each individual’s starting point, goals and limitations. I take the time to listen to all my clients and fully understand their goals, I learn their likes, dislikes, comfort level with certain movements as well as their previous experience with exercise. With this information, I can find the best way to reach each client creating learned habits from our experience together.

I am most proud of my brand slogans, “FIND YOUR FIT” and “MY FIT IS ________.” These two slogans really encompass what I want my business and brand to be. A space where you don’t compare yourself to others, instead, comparing yourself to the goals that you have set for yourself.

I wouldn’t say I am where I want to be business wise, but I will say I am where I am because I didn’t give up. It’s not easy to run a small business, I have to wear many hats and most of them I am not good at wearing. If you want to run a business though, challenges are to be expected and while there are still challenges that I am currently facing, the ones I have conquered I did because I did it scared. This is one of the many lessons I have learned along the way. Do it scared. You may not know the outcome, but you won’t find out if you don’t try.

I want the world to know that my brand is about getting YOU to focus on YOU, not on what you see on Instagram and other social platforms. I want my clients to feel comfortable with themselves and only make changes because they want to, not because of what anyone else says they should look like. Your fitness journey is different from everyone else’s. It belongs to you and you alone. Focus on the positive changes you need to make in your Lifestyle and I promise whatever results you’re seeking will follow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow, well assuming paying for gas wouldn’t be an issue I would take them to eat at Burger time Machine in Denton, MOMs Burgers & Wings in Little Elm, Jonathon’s Oakcliff in Oakcliff, and Hutchins BBQ in Frisco. (just to name a few)

We’re definitely day drinking at the Daiquiri Shoppe in Carrollton, 3 flights in Frisco, then head to Deep ellum to STIRR and all the great bars that are down there (way to many to name).

I would of course take them to The Star with all its great brunch spots, The Truck Yard in the Colony then finally to Deep Ellum or uptown in Dallas to end the night. Tons of great bars and chill spots in both locations! I still consider myself to be fairly new to Dallas but in my six years here these places have left their mark!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out a few people! First, of course, God for giving me the idea to start my business in the first place.

Dee Maddox of DMX Consulting for the quote I just spoke of AND for her consulting advice on my business.

Finally my husband, Andre, for his constant support, encouragement and love.
