We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic during 2020. What prompted me to get into entrepreneurship was when I noticed many people beginning to lose their jobs. It was then that I realized that these companies that we work for care nothing about us at the end of the day. I knew that I had to find a way to make money that cannot be taken away from me whenever someone else feels that it is time. Growing up I always had an interest in fashion but never pursued it as a career. Back then it was foreign to become a successful entrepreneur coming from where I’m from. Now that I look around and see so many successful Black entrepreneurs thriving, it gives me motivation to become just as great as they are.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My designs are meant to be pieces that you will NEVER find in stores because they are just that unique. I mostly create clothing for women because I want to make women feel good about themselves when they put on my designs. I first began sewing face masks during the pandemic in 2020 because of the demand for them at that time. Shortly after I was persuaded by my best friend MerCedes to design a swimsuit for her upcoming beach vacation. I did not know the first thing about designing a swimsuit so I watched YouTube videos until I felt comfortable enough to give it a try. The first swimsuit I ever designed was absolutely horrible, but I continued to practice my craft until my skills improved. I am most proud of my recent work with Quality Control’s (QC) artist, Lakeyah. It has always been a dream of mine to work with celebrities, but I never expected it to happen so fast. That moment was the highlight of my career and all the motivation that I needed to continue to perfect my craft until I work with even bigger names. I want the world to know that The Exquisite Brand will become a household name and remember that you read it here first.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In DFW it is a must that you try tex-mex or traditional Mexican food. Some of my favorite places to visit are Taqueria La Ventana and Campuzano’s in Dallas, Taco Oasis in Fort Worth, and Tu Taco in Arlington. You also must visit Arlington to visit Six Flags Over Texas for some amusement park fun and AT&T Stadium during a Dallas Cowboys Game for a live game, food, and entertainment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my family and friends. My family members are the most consistent at sharing posts and bragging on my work. I appreciate that more than anything because the recognition feels amazing after you spent hours working to finish a product. I would also like to shoutout my best friends MerCedes and Chris. MerCedes was the first person to ever request a custom swimsuit from me. At that time I had not even thought about trying to make swimwear so I began watching YouTube videos to learn and look at how far I’ve come. Chris is always willing to jump in and help when I am overwhelmed.
